She was indeed at the mentioned meet. Stupid. Also their #1 guy from nationals who was 3rd was notified of a positive drug test result. What a mess of a program.
I would assume we will have to wait from a statement from the NAIA or Huntington (not wanting on honesty from Huntington).
I reviewed the NAIA drug testing handbook yesterday after hearing about the positive test rumor from the XC season and I have to say the NAIA handbook is not very detailed. There is a one-ish page summary on banned substances and it specifically states it is not an exhaustive list and athletes should be aware of what substances fall into the banned categories. Not even a reference to a more complete resource like ncaa guide or usada substances list.
Wow. So if true weeks after the allegations about the program first surface their top male runner tests positive for peds. It just keeps getting worse.
This is so incredibly stupid on Huntington's part and now some of the responsibility falls on the new coach.
If your team is under scrutiny for rumors about doping, you should be testing your athletes once a week. The NAIA policy, while barebones at best, explicitly states they can test at National Championship meets. Even if this kid got popped for a recreational drug, this is a terrible look for a program that I thought couldn't look any worse.
Does the NAIA have a "death penalty" for programs? If so, this would be a good time to use it, make an example of Huntington, and to serve as a warning to others.
Allow the athletes to transfer right away. That may actually be the best and safest course of action for them.
I would even go a step further. The moment an athlete fails a drug test, the rest of the team (both guys and girls) should also be immediately tested. That goes for any team and any sport. Unfortunately it seems naive to think that only their top male runner is doping.
I agree with responsibility falling on the new coach although a University with 1,000 students cannot afford test an entire team every single week, especially for PEDs.
It looks like they've used something like it before, but it was limited to a single team and not an entire athletic department. I also support the death penalty, and would like to see it applied to the entire athletic department for at least four years.
However, if the johnson's were doing all of this as the coaches, the new head coach may have been repeatedly lied to about what was going on. Everything suggests that the Johnson's lie about A LOT.
Shame on him that it has happened. He was foolish enough to work at Huntington.
We have still yet to see any documentation that the L-carnitine study was actually tied to any research. That should take about an hour to debunk if it was actual research.
Ok, then you test them the week leading into Nationals.
What makes you think HU would ever do something like this?
I assume it probably wasn't a coincidence that HU's top guy got "randomly" tested by the NAIA, and I wouldn't be surprised if more of HU's runners were "randomly" tested at the meet.
I fail to see how any drug test an athlete fails at any school is the coach's fault. How would a coach stop an athlete from doping if that's what they are determined to do? Coaches have a hard time getting most athletes to follow a proper diet or independent workout, yet they should now be responsible for making sure they can pass a drug test.
Unless you're somehow implying that the new coach is encouraging it or is running a Johnson-type scheme it really has nothing to do with the him/her.
I think rather, as has been made conspicuously clear, the Johnson's are still connected to the program and its athletes and are coaching them behind the scenes. It is extremely doubtful that the athlete who was just caught was doping on his own or without the Johnson's involvement. It has become a scofflaw program. And more general, it reflects severe a lose of institutional control.

Made clear by a bunch of message board posts. Anyone can post anything on here without checks or balances. I dont know if the Johnson’s are or are not involved. If Nick Johnson is involved why hasn’t he been arrested? Multiple no contact orders have been put in place by the state of Indiana. Are you implying there is a government conspiracy to allow the Johnson’s to circumvent the system?
Again, an athlete failing a test (we don’t even know what the failure was for) is not any coach’s fault or school’s fails. At this point I hope everyone holds all schools and coaches responsible for a failed test anywhere.

The problem is that we know for a fact Lauren is still involved with the team, so by extension Nick is still involved. She ran a turkey trot with Addy, and was literally at the tech meet last weekend. I understand that “legally” speaking Nick may be following all the court orders, but it becomes a problem when the wife is still communicating with the team.
I completely understand what you’re saying and I’m not claiming any type of conspiracy, I’m just saying the system is kinda flawed when dealing with situations like this.
Also, Haile tested positive for a PED. It was not a recreational substance. Feel free to believe me or not, but my reputation in this thread should be enough to prove some validity.
Abby’s personal relationships are uncontrollable. I assume you realize the difference between an individual’s personal decisions (as bad as they may be) and an entire programs culpability as it relates to the involvement of an an outside person and the relationships they keep. At the end of the day, the original post of trying to hold the current coaching staff accountable for individual actions. I don’t care about most of this, but I can tell you most people on this board are just bitter and speaking without any kind of common sense.
