Unless that was a typo, we just saw the greatest mile in women's marathon history. @LondonMarathon is reporting a 4:43 24th mile for Y2 . pic.twitter.com/jGCfeBp7de
I think we may be getting a bit carried away here. Sub-2:10? That will never happen in my lifetime unless everyone is forced to race in wheelchairs as the world triples down on woke-insanity.
Equivalent to Kipchoge? Kipchoge was a world champion on the track before moving to the marathon. Y2 didn't make the Ethiopian team in teh 10,000 this year. To counteract that though, she is much younger when she moved to the marathon.
What was the best marathon split by a woman before today?
Late in the London marathon, Ethiopian girl YalemZerf was rnning with Jet Koskai and to drop Koskai, the Ethiopian bolted and left her for dead. That get away mile was recorded at 4:43
My word!
The commentators were in shock but from what i have heard in the athletics circle of Ethiopia, i am Ethiopian,, this girl is special. She was running at her school 7 years ago until she joining the athletics academy over the last for years.
NOTE: She fail in this London marathon, was hurt and got up and running. She run a fast tie today but had she not fallen, what would have happened????
The women's world record is on borrowed time. She's only 23. She has many years ahead of her in the marathon. She's strong and if you take her to Berlin, a flat track and much easier than London, she will smash the world record to pieces.
Listen to the commentators in shock on the below link.
You hate us but we have no hate for you. That is the difference between Ethiopians and Kenyans. How can you knock that sort of performance????? Are you an athletics fan ?
Don't hate. Appreciate.
Ethiopia has given the world 2 gifts. Coffee and terrific athletes.
Go back and see who won the 1st Gold for Africa in the marathon in 1960, it was an Ethiopian running BARE FOOT. Inspired a holiywood move. Same guy won Tokeyo marathon in 1964. A marathon double which had never been done before. Where was Kenya at the time?, running fro the british i think LOL
NOTE guys. This girl run 63:43 for the half marathon. Insane!. That women's world record is going to be smashed to pieces by this girl. Trust me. THIS is the new star in women's marathon. SHE IS ONLY 23.
Watch her become the 1st women to ever run under 64 below should you wish.
This is INSANE!!! | Yalemzerf Yehualaw smashes the Half Marathon World Record in under 64 Minutes!!!

Ethiopia does not have a history of doping. You would have to go south to Kenya for that where many of the athletes you have seen winning and have finished in the top 3 have died. This is fact. Not saying all Kenyans but some are dopers.
Mr Kenya do you want me to list Kenyan athletes that have passed away at a young age?
We are Ethiopians. We are honest people. We have morals and values. That comes from us being the first Christian nation on the planet. Our pride comes from never being colonized. We don't like cheating , lying or anything God tells us not to do. Want to see how respectful our boys and girls are ? want to see how hard they work and they respect each other.?? watch the below:

Still not allowed to say it in a running thread. We know what it takes today to produce "insane" performances. But that is "bigoted and discriminatory". Turning a blind eye to the obvious is preferred here.
Thing, the sport is what it is. It is dominated internationally by dopers just like other endurance sports. You want to follow it? Fine. You want to celebrate a countryman's victory. Ok. But don't insult people's intelligence and pretending this had anything to do with legitimate athletics.
It it just national chauvanism. I have had people argue that East Germany was not doping. Go to videos of Ma's army and you get dozens of celebratory comments. It was/is the same way in cycling. Someone tried to convince me that Pantani was clean.
According to the race commentary her name translates to "edge of the earth." Very cool. Hopefully her and Gidey push each other to great things for many years.
