Looks like Aaron is doing the dirty work for the team again this year by leading them early to get through the pack. Brosnan and the rest of the 2021 top 4 shouted him out a ton last year for doing that.
I'm gonna guess that the best chance for L&L to break the record will be if Aaron can improve his fitness enough to pace for them for longer than at this meet. Seems like he only lasted ~1000m with them vs ~2 miles last year
Let’s continue the much more interesting story on Grenada.
Unfortunately, they only got third. They may have underperformed a little.
Unfortunately, their top guy did not break 15. He ran 15:16, which is a 6s PR for him. He closed strong to finish 12th. He passed Doshi in the last mile, so he would have been NP#4.
They finished with 157 points. 117 points behind NP. But I am sure that if a few guys had run better, they could have brought down the deficit to 100 points.
Based on the track results (3200/1600), by the end of the season, I can see Granada’s 2nd/3rd guys get close to their top guy. Their second guy was actually close to their first guy at Woodbridge, unlike in this race. If he was close to their first guy here, Granada would have been competitive with San Clemente. If their 2nd and 3rd guy were up there with their 1st, they would have crushed San Clemente. Actually, Granada’s 2nd and 3rd guys had a faster 1600 PR than their 1st guy. So there’s no reason why those 3 shouldn’t be together. They have a very deep 1-7. One of the guys who was their #2 at cif state and did well during track had an off day and finished as a distant 7th on the team. Their #5 guy who is a senior wasn’t even on their varsity last year. Good way to finish his high school career. And good way to increase the depth on the back end of the varsity. Granada and San Clemente had a much, much better #1 guy than Great Oak. I wonder how both Cortes brothers would have done if they were both healthy. Also, check out their JV team results from yesterday. They finished second behind a team that was once nationally ranked this season. So they got some depth too
Let’s do some stories on some more teams we haven’t talked about much. Clovis- unfortunately they only got 7th in the merge. Watkins was not their 5th man like expected. But McGee stepped up and is doing a good job trying to close the gap on their 4th. Looks like a state title / NXN berth is out of the picture for Clovis. But that’s ok. Caudillo could still go to Nxn as an individual. Clovis has a solid 2-4 back next year, but to make it, they will need 2 more guys to step up during track or in the summer. Buchanan boys team seems to be approaching what their girls team is doing. San Clemente is much improved from what they were at Woodbridge. They got a solid 2-5 30 second compression and a nice low stick.
FWIW when comparing Manhattan using speed ratings CBA would’ve been 2nd at Clovis and Corning would’ve been somewhere between Great Oak and Crescenta Valley, St. Anthony’s would have lost to both but beaten SLO.

Inserting Herriman, they would have been very close to Granada. Belen Jesuit out of Florida would’ve been surprisingly competitive, they match up nearly identically with Granada but slightly better.
Also important to note the results from the Nike XC Town meet last weekend. Jesuit, Carmel and Plainfield South would all have beaten San Clemente, while Noblesville matches up nearly identically. Zionsville and Mason also looked very very good.
In the L&L video released today Lex said he was coming off of a sickness, so hopefully when he's fully healthy he'll be able to push Leo for a little longer. Watching the video of the Clovis Invite, looks like Leo was leading from around 1.5 miles with Lex barely hanging on until the end.
Chris Caudillo is another prize recruit. Has he made his college choice yet? Anyone know where he’s heading?
There is another prize recruit rising in the CCS.
He is a sophomore from Santa Cruz, His name is Eli Fitchen-Young. Yesterday at the Crystal Springs Invitational he broke the 45 year old Soph record by a second with a 14:57.
He has been tearing it up in the CCS this fall. It looks like his coach is bringing him along slowly. I can’t wait to see how he does in the state D3 championship.
Now guys, just note that the state meet results might become different than the what we saw in the Clovis results. In 2019, at Clovis, Dublin got 3rd, but at CIF state they weren’t in contention to make NXN based on the merged results. Dana Hills was 8th at Clovis but got 3rd in the merged result at cif state. Jesuit CA beat some teams at state that they couldn’t beat at Clovis.

Is he related to Nico, Lex and Leo by any chance?
If he was from Los Altos I would say there is a good chance, since the Youngs have relatives there per there we’re going to Stanford video. Young man (pun intended) is from Santa Cruz so probably not.
Crescenta Valley reloaded nicely. They lost 4 seniors from CIf state but returned 3 scorers and found 2 more scorers and a little more depth behind them. They have a low stick in senior Parker Simmons. San Luis Obispo is really good this year but only 5 deep. They were good last year and returned a lot of people. They have a low stick in Milo Skapinsky. Didn’t expect these teams to finish ahead of Clovis and Ventura. Must be really good teams
Let’s look at more high-finish CA teams… 10th place finishing team in the merge…St John Bosco….returned 4 of their top 5 last year and added a guy who might be new to running to their top 5. They got 5th at stste in d3 last year. This team is only 5 deep though. 11th place finishing team in the merge…St Francis Le Canada. Returned their top 3 and added 2 more guys who weren’t on their varsity to their top 5. 12th in d4 last year. Also…Yosemite. 14th in d4 last year. 16th in the merge in this race. Their top 5 is 4 sophs and 1 junior. They beat Dana hills in the merge. Could go to NXN in 2 years if they find another freshman or a sophomore to add to their top 4.

who was the guy right behind them in all the repeats? if that's Seymour he can go a lot faster than he ended up going

Who’s the guy that fell down in the last few meters of a race?
If it’s Doshi he could have maybe finished as the top junior considering Parra had an off race.
Who’s the guy that hung with Doshi in the L/L video during workouts? If it’s Cantu he can go a lot faster than he ended up going.
Who’s the guy that finished 12th in this race last year? If it’s Martinez I think he should return to the team. He finished higher than this year’s 4th and 5th Newbury park guys did

This would be a really good 4-7.
The 10 place finisher is a junior and the 16 place finisher is a Soph.

That's one way to look at it. Another way is, if everyone would have gone to their home school and not transferred, they would have been left with the guy who fell at the finish and a 16:30 guy.
Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Most teams probably had issues on that day, whether it was kids being sick, injured, not running well, blah, blah, blah.
