I’m actually not surprising that Zionsville and Center Grove are doing so well. Zionsville returned all scorers Center Grove only lost 1 scorer and added Ty Garrett. Wonder if both of these teams will be ranked in the top 10 or top 15 nationally
Plainfield South is good too cause they returned all scorers from last year.
Carmel didn’t lose many guys but added a transfer from MN

Here's my take on the race. The team order of finish doesn't have much wiggle room for upsets: Carmel, Zionsville, Center Grove, Noblesville, C North. It's going to be really hard for any other team to break into the top 5. Within the top 5, I think the best chance for someone to move up is C North into 4th ahead of Noblesville. Second best "upset" chance is Center Grove moves up into second.
For the individual race, a few runners are going to take a shot at beating Kole. Let's face it, we're all competitive right? Why not take a shot if you're feeling good. Guess at early attackers are the top seniors: Lord, Guthrie, Garrett, plus Todd. Ultimately one of those early attackers is going to crash and burn outside of the top 10. Lord has the most freedom to be aggressive because he's not affecting the team picture at all.
Not hard to predict the final outcome though: Mathison wins, Carmel wins.
Do you think Indiana will ever go to a class based system in XC? For decades Basketball was single class and people thought that would never change....
There is no Milan in HS BB anymore and there sure as heck isn't a Milan in IN HS XC. Except maybe Richmond? Was Richmond in '95 considered a Milan?
No I really do not think they will. Imagine being a small school with 800 kids in the high school and having to go to the same semi-state against the likes of carmel, brownsburg, ben davis (around 3k or more in the hs). But at least you know if you are the best in the state? I am from Ohio and moved to teach and coach in Indiana.. It really is backwards IMO.
They are actually talking about eliminating one round (currently have 4). So I am not sure if that makes it worse or better.
In regards to how state plays out. I think Carmel takes the W, and I think it will be a great race for second place.
Weather looks like its going to be perfect. Kole broke Cole Hockers record last weekend. It'll be interesting to see what he does at the state meet. I really think it is his race to lose.
Yea the extra round always seemed odd to me....but you almost have to do that with a single class....
Sectional, Regional, Semi-State, State......the way some schools race they will have more championship races than regular season. "Back in my day".....our Conference Meet was on Wednesday and Sectional Saturday. I do not know if any schools still do that.
If you move to a single class system you can still have a Meet of Champions that some states have. Sectional, Regional, State, then Meet of Champions on same course as state....if that's feasible.
Southeastway Park was a great course! cept for that tree in the middle of the narrow run course.....

I'm generally not in favor of splitting into classes for XC. The biggest challenge with a class-based system is how do you split it, and how you run the qualifying rounds? Geography really comes into play. More teams would travel longer distances. I also feel like the individual qualifier mitigates the one-class system. I would be in favor of expanding the individual numbers.
The crazy thing about splitting by size is that Carmel and Ben Davis don't have any peers in terms of size. The 3rd largest school in Indiana is 1500 smaller than Carmel!
Carmel 5327, Ben Davis 4557, Warren Central 3845, North Central Indy 3709, FIshers 3611, HSE 3430, Penn 3345, Elkhart 3294, Avon 3248, Noblesville 3220, Franklin Central 3206, Lake Central 3211. I'm sure I missed one or two.
Then there are 20-25 schools between 2000-3000 students

Do it like they do with basketball, 4 classes. Go the xtra step and have a meet of champions.
