JFC, that was unearthly. 3 years ago, when guys here were arguing about whether she'd end up breaking 53, I was quite sure she'd end up way under 52, but THIS,... THIS is just absurd. Now, you could probably make it close to even money she might eventually crack 50-flat, if she wants to keep pushing it for a few more years. I would not have thought that was possible.
Did anybody catch her full stride-pattern? Did she go 14 through 7, and 15 through 10?
(If so, I'm assuming that's probably the first time we've seen that?)
Freaking unbelievable. PLEASE put her on the Goddamn relay. It'd be SO much fun to watch her race Shaunae and Paulino.
First time we’ve seen that? Isn’t that the same stride pattern she used in her 51.4?
Is it? That's what I was wondering. Gotta go check the vid. I thought this might've been her first race where I didn't see any stutters.
2nd best? Bol is yet to break 52s. Muhammad has won a bunch of Olympic and world medals, broke the world record twice and her PB is 51.58, second fastest woman of all time and she’s not done yet. She still got on the podium while nursing an injury.
Unless its windy. I can't believe 44.30 won a world title. SRR says it's a 'career defining moment' but he didn't really up his game. It's just if you show up enough and run decent, you might win.
The last time a time that slow won a world title was 2011.
Seriously??
That is what you take time to post? He had struggled in big meets and finally was able to win one. Just like Lyles looked a little flat when he won in Doha, it was because of the pressure. I have been hard on Norman and criticize his ability to get it done, but he got it done.
As the race unfolded and Sydney took off the Secretariat race in the Belmont came to mind. Tracksiders then kept saying that he was going too fast, he was going to collapse. I felt the same way here- she would start tying up in the stretch and would be caught by Bol and Muhammad. And when she just kept going my mouth fell open and I realized that we would see something so spectacular, so amazing that anyone who was there will remember for a long long time.
And it was a windy freaking night --as times in the open races appear to attest.
It's just ridiculous. She's a goddamn video-game at this point.
All the pompous asses here the other day mocking anyone who *dared* suggest she might eventually take a serious crack at Koch or Kratochvilova,... just might be forced to reconsider. I mean, you'd be an idiot to doubt she could crack 49 right now. Could she push 48? She can't be very far off.
PLEASE put her on the Goddamn relay. It'd be the smartest way by far to end the meet.
Well supposedly she is going to give it a shot but there have been a lot of woman hurdlers that are only running 2.5s faster over the flats. Those woman's hurdles just aren't that high. I would bet against her running 47.6 right now. I would bet on 48.5 getting beaten. Down around 48 would be the evn money bet to me...
And don't take that as a negative. Sub 49 is crazy fast....
Had Shericka Jackson took the bait and questioned Flojo’s world record , gault’s follow up questions probably would have been, “Why do you think you improved so much this year, compared to last year”. However way she answered that question, it wouldn’t have been good for her reputation.
But luckily she was too smart for him and didn’t fall for his childish-dirty tactics. Instead, she kicked his butt, and put him (the clown journalist) in his place.

I think he's suggesting that even if Dalilah can get back to her peak form, it may not be that likely she can still get much better than that, whereas Bol still has a huge upside. And I think he's probably right; Bol probably will end up being faster than DH.

Yeah, well, obviously, if it's 2.5, then she's already pushing 48. And I don't think *anybody* thinks she's reached her full potential yet, so you pretty much made my point. If that's the case then you'd absolutely have to think she'll probably have a shot to break 48 at some point in the next couple years.
And if she does ever get under 48, then it's clearly *not* so crazy to think about her having a shot at Koch. It still might be a ways away, but it's not the impossibility these guys made it out to be.
Which is pretty freaking mind-boggling. Especially considering World Champs was won tonight --convincingly-- in what, 49.3?
Is it? That's what I was wondering. Gotta go check the vid. I thought this might've been her first race where I didn't see any stutters.
Yeah she’s definitely already done that. I was expecting her to go 14 through 9
Okay, thanks. I need to review some video. If that's the case, then she managed to speed up her turnover a hell of a lot in a short time, without screwing up her steps at all,... which is pretty freaking amazing. She is some kind of time-traveling prodigy.
Great time for Michael Norman, but I think Steven Gardiner would've won this.
Wait. I don't know why I read it as 43.30 instead of 44. Gardiner would definitely have jogged to gold.
Part of being a world champion is being able to stay healthy enough to compete. Gardiner failed to do that this year, while Norman did. Congratulations to Michael Norman for a much-deserved win!!
You have to feel bad for Femke Bol. She will finish her career as the second best 400mH in history ... and it is doubtful that she will even have a single gold medal.
Sydney may switch to other events like the 400 or 200 or 100h.
Also, Sydney probably won't be running track in her 30's. She will move to other things.
So if Bol can stay motivated like Muhammad has been doing, Bol will eventually have a shot at a 400h gold medal.
