I wouldn't say that Wightman will place higher than Kerr. And also wouldn't see why to put Garcia Romo over Katir. But have a slight suspicion, that Kipsang indeed could snatch gold if he stays close to Jakob.
Would like to see Kerr win or get a medal but I think his conditioning just didn’t pan out the way we would have all liked to see this season. Jakob followed by the two Africans. would be very surprised to see Jakob tie up at point in the race and cruise to another 3:28
This post is stupid. Nobody on letsrun expects him to run sub 3:30. I would guess 334 is about the best we could hope from him. If the race is that fast he will be nowhere near the front of it. I'm sure that now there will be a couple of trolls that will post something like this but it won't be serious.
Grant Fisher on the other hand was good enough to be at the front of the 10000m and had opportunities to get himself there and he chose to not do that. That cost him a possible medal.
Jager also had opportunities to get himself to the front if he had wanted and he chose not to. He may not have been fit enough to maintain a move to the front but that would have been his only chance at a medal. He had a decent finish but was too far back to catch anyone.
None of our women 1500 women could have hung with the top 3 at the pace they ran. They are not good enough.
That pretty much sums it. At any rate, I don't think anybody is suggesting that any of the U.S. 1500 meter runners could have made the podium, given how that race was run. I suspect that will also hold true for Josh and the men's race. Most of this field is out of his league. But kudos to him for running very intelligent races in the heats and semis to advance to this stage. As wel as for makign the team in the first place. The man makes the most out of what he has.

100%. Good luck to Josh! He has a had a great run this year
I predict Jakob will go out in front first 400 at a relatively conservative pace of 58-59, then McSweyn will lead for the next 600-700, and then it will be a race until the line and the order will be Jakob, Kerr, Kipsang, with Kerr just barely losing to Jakob.
Jakob, Kipsang, ... and then Wightman / Timothy. As for Kerr, I am very doubtful. He believes he is the master of peaking for the right time, but I am very doubtful of that. I say he'll be a non-factor.
Only aspect that could throw a wrench: Jakob doesn't want to burn too many matches before the 5000m and so this whole thing will be slow(er). In that case, who knows :).
Of course Jakob will lose. It looks like it will be Timmy, Jakob and Abel for the gold, silver and bronze, in that order. Do not rule out team tactics for the Kenyans being the difference.

Are you joking? Lot of good Kenyan team tactics did them at the Olympics.

The past is not necessarily prologue to the future. Doubt me at your own peril, although I cannot imagine there is any peril.
If he's qualified and participating then Dion Marquise Hayes will win. If he's turned his focus to other endeavors then perhaps the blood doper from Norway or the EPO using potato farmer from Kenya will take the race.
