This is by far not true. All the top SS teams will be there. Don’t believe that list, I already see one team that is on there that won’t be there.

According to an article on prepcaltrack (which usually has good information), Newbury Park and Great Oak will be at the Cool Breeze Invitational, also on Sept. 3.
Are they splitting squads?
I meant to post the link to Cool Breeze. That’s where the top teams will be.
yes, Newbury park and great oak will be at cool breeze
great oak will be running their varsity and Newbury park will be running their JV at cool breeze
Actually, np and go are listed on the teams list for both cool breeze and Southern California opener.
but individual entries are on cool breeze only. But none are listed in the so cal opener.
but only JV np guys are listed in cool breeze. np usually sits their varsity guys out during that race
I totally overlooked Madera South. 5 guys between 9:02 and 9:22. All seniors. They all beat one of Clovis’s top 5 guy who is a senior.
clovis did beat them head to head on august 13
Newbury Park better have a studly JV team this year. Or else things won’t be looking good for them next year
this is where the so cal opener results are gonna be
interesting stuff as always.
guys side: the first 3 are spot on.
campalindo at 4? Not sure about that.
their top 3 are good but their 4/5 are far behind.
Clovis seems to be much better at positions 1,4, and 5 at least. And Madera South seems to have a much better pack, all of them being seniors.
girls:
Newbury park is losing McDonnell and 2 other scorers so they need to make up a lot of ground to be a #3 team.
but I’m pretty sure that Brotcke’s improvement and Sophia grant‘s 18:52 5K should really add to the team. Spaulding didn’t run track for whatever reason.
if all that is made up, Newbury is set at number 3 and could get an at large to NXN
We are giving away NXN spots on September 2nd?
I'm taking Granada over Great Oak, those returning 1600/3200 time much better. The #2 and #3 closed the gap on their #1
No we are not. I’m just saying it’s pretty obvious of who makes NXN.
Newbury Park, great oak and Granada will be hard to beat by any other team. And all 3 are some of the best teams in the nation so whoever gets third gets an at-large.
It’s obvious that Buchanan is the best team in the region on the girls side because they lost no one. And got second at nationals.
Great Oak lost nobody either.
When I looked at the merged state meet results I was surprised that both Granite Bay and Campolindo were ahead of Great Oak and all 3 of these teams return all scorers. But then I realized that Great oak was missing someone from the state meet.
I do think that it’s hard to think that Newbury Park girls team is better than Granite bay and campolindo because of how much Newbury park lost.
Also, people forget that great oak’s Nathan Lennox (the guy who ran a 15:27 5K in 2020 and was also the best nonsenior that year) returned to the team. He did not run last year but this year at the time trial he was their #3 guy.
So the 3 spots that were left after people graduated were filled in very nicely.
Great oak girls crushed the varsity race. Sophia Grant (np freshman) second in that race.
np boys sophomore class is small. But np went 3-4-16 in the soph race. Top soph wasn’t Watson who ran a 4:39. It was the guy who does another spring sport, not track.
Actually Sophia grant won. Should probably be top 3 on the team this year.
NP freshman boys went 11-60-77-260 in freshman race.
Dickran/Bernardino running varsity.
So no Porter? Or Noah Sloan? Guevara can’t run varsity until October 3.
Arnav Shetty leading this squad though. Went 4:35 last spring and I saw in an article that he will surprise a lot of people this year.
No sign of Rhoe or Zasloff (both sub-5 guys). Couldn’t find them on the milesplit np roster.
Hmm…
Anyone know of any other good freshman going to NP in 2023 besides Adrian cantu?
Noah Sloan’s chip didn’t register first 1.5 mile.
But man, freshman Bernardino moved up 35 spots after mile 1.5!!!!! Finished very close to Shetty
Jesuit ca has really shown that they need a number 5 in this race
Jesuit is back to needing to find a #5.
What a wrong year for them to not have an elite transfer which they always seem to get!
Cressman did not finish as high as expected.
Emma Coburn to miss Olympic Trials after breaking ankle in Suzhou
Jakob on Oly 1500- “Walk in the park if I don’t get injured or sick”
VALBY has graduated (w/ honors) from Florida, will she go to grad school??
NY Times: Treadmill desks might really be worth it. Does anyone use one?
