feel like you’d bend over for the kid, it’s not that deep. The “idiot” in the blue had every right to be there, and as someone already said, he’s ran 1:50, so it’s not like he’s a scrub. It’s a race, people get in the way, sometimes they don’t end the way you want. Cade raced well, came up short. He’ll race again next week and have the chance to break it again, with a field that will most likely have guys way under it. Calm down.
Maybe you should start a thread on the pros and cons of racing positive splits in events 200m/400m/800m. We can discuss merits of racing shortest distance versus racing even splits in 800m and either boxed in along the rail or racing in lane three the final 250m. We also may discuss exactly how one can race the first 400m of 800m race and not d.n.f. Mostly likely there are no definite correct answers so your assumption that 51.xx 1st lap is dumb is not true.
Soloing a 1:46.48 is definitely with 1.45.5 easily if he is behind others and not doing all the work. I am going to go out on a limb and say he runs 1:45 low at USA nationals
The funny thing about all this sumner and Flatt rivalry is neither is a pure 800m talent. Sumner is best 400 - 600 and cade Flatt honestly looks like he could be a future 3:30 guy in day. Don't really see him clocking in under 1:43 unless he has a nick symmonds break through
He sure is. But the guy who took 2nd probably is the greatest US HS mid distance guy ever.
Umm no. For Flatt to hold that title, he would have to beat out arguably the greatest US High-school athlete of all sports period, Jim Ryun. Flatt is not even close to Ryun. Look at these stats and remember this happened 57-58 years ago.
Ran 5 sub-4 miles in HS(has 4 performances in the top 10 all-time to this day)
4 more 1500m that were sub-4 equivalents
Made the US Olympic team as a 17 year old Junior and got to the semis
Ran 3:59.0 as a HS Junior(second all-time junior after Conner Burns)
Ran 3:39 as a HS Junior(still standing Junior HS record)
Ran 4:07.8 as a 16 year old Soph
His 3:55 mile is still second all-time(beating the Olympic Champion Peter Snell)
Ranked 4th in the World at 1500m when he was still a HS senior
Cade Flatt is not even remotely close to Ryun, as much hype as Ryun gets on these boards, you could still almost say he was underrated, he was just that phenomenal. It's not even a contest between him and Flatt.

How do you people come up with these determinations? Sumner has run 45.8 and 1:46.5 and you call him a 400-600 guy, Flatt runs 46.9, 1:46.5 and 4:12 and he's a 1500 runner? What times would lead to either of them being "pure" in the 800? 46 low in the 400? I'm sure they'll both continue to improve at the next level, only time will tell what their best event is.
