I was thinking he had no chance at the record when I saw the calf sleeve, the venue--Franklin Field (Penn Relays rarely see fast times and never in the distances), and the quality of the field. He gave a heckuva run at it, and now he's run two great ones, just a bit short of the national record, but #2 all time is awfully good. Maybe next week he will run 1:45.
I guess you didn't see the guy in blue ended up finishing last in the field. He wasn't racing, he was just in everyone's way.
A quick search shows that he's a highschooler with a 1:50.47 PB. He had every right to be there and you're acting like he should've stepped off the track because he got out ahead of Flatt. Give me a break, that's called being in a RACE.
He’s GREAT. But now he looks like an idiot basically saying he was going to obliterate that record.
Has at least one more shot, maybe several at US Sr. Nats.
I want to see the record fall but I don’t think USA’s is the best place. It’ll be a more tactical race (depending on the the heat) more than likely and I don’t think the traffic is conducive for record breaking.
Yeah, well he ran 1:53.48 today. That's 8 full seconds behind Flatt, and kind of makes make point he had no business going out that fast. I'm pretty sure his coach isn't going to say that going out in 51.25 was always the plan...
