I corrected it right underneath. A bad typo lol. But to also respond to the point above it’s a general statement about the class not just cole. The point is Nico is not running laps around other guys from 2020 like some on this board would have you think. Nico is amazing though no shade.
The NCAA decided they couldn't enforce the rules across all of their divisions given the differences in officiating at lower levels and thus they are legal in the NCAA at this time
When I read it, I assumed it was a typo. The rest of the post is not consistent with intentional use of “awful”. I still think it was a typo.

I mean... Nico is running laps around everyone not named Cole Sprout from the class of 2020. Not sure who's the third best but I believe it's Josh Methner who is nearly a whole minute behind Sprout and Young in the 10k. It's just that somewhere along the line people started sleeping on Sprout, who got a significant amount of hype in high school (arguably more than Young) before NXN in 2019. If Sprout hadn't run a bad race then, he probably would've gotten the hype he deserves.
the post is a little over the top but comparing careers its very likely Cole and Nico leave this weekend with the same number of all - americans. Cole's highest performance in the NCAA will be his 4th place finish. As of now (very likely will change Friday) Nicos is 3rd. How can you say Nico has been so much better?
As a Colorado guy I love Cole Sprout, but c'mon man. Knowing that Cole trained pretty conservatively in HS, I did think he would close the gap on Young a bit during college and I wouldn't shocked if that trend continued and Sprout ended up better in the long run, but right now?
You can't count All-American finishes -- someone that finished 30th ever year could be a 4-time all-american, but that doesn't put them on equal footing with someone that went 5th, 2nd, 4th, and 11th or something.
Nico Young has a 3:37 and 13:11 to his name, and has consistently been at the front of just about every race he's been in, including 4th and 11th at NCAAs. Sprout has only come onto that stage in the last few months with his 5th indoors and 4th now. Let's give it some time before we compare the two. I don't think Young has lost to Sprout since junior year of HS.
As a non American who doesn't follow the NCAA rulebook too closely, how come he was able to wear ineligible footwear in the meet? NCAA track doesn't follow WA regulations? Seems bizarre to me.
The NCAA decided they couldn't enforce the rules across all of their divisions given the differences in officiating at lower levels and thus they are legal in the NCAA at this time
That makes zero sense. If I go to my local Ontario Masters mini meet crewed by a skeleton crew of octogenarian volunteers, the meet has to follow Athletics Ontario/Athletics Canada regulations which say all track meets must follow World Athletics codes. If my local rinky dink masters meet for 30 athletes in small town Ontario can be up to code than the NCAA can figure it out.
To be honest, a bit lame he won wearing Vaporflys, if that’s the case. Reminds me of when Harvard was able to kit their entire team in Vaporflys (might have been Alphaflys) last minute for the bizarre road XC regionals in 2019…and won by 30 points against teams that did not have the shoe tech, at least not across their entire team if I recall.
They’re banned for pro competition for a reason and should be banned in the NCAA as well. Those things really do make a difference, more than the spike tech.
Also in violation of the Under Armour contract with the university.

Since this thread seems to have become about shoes, where is it stated that vaporflys are not allowed? Alphaflys are banned due to them exceeding the 40mm stack height rule but I have seen no rule against vaporflys which are allowed in olympic marathon competiton. As for the Under Armour comment, everyone knows UA's track spikes and racing shoes suck. Look at teams sponsored by UA and you won't see them all training in UA shoes or racing in them. This is a violation for pro athletes but collegiate athletes can wear them, they just won't get them for free as they would UA stuff
" b. We have questions regarding shoes and spikes and if they are legal. Below is more information about each: The two trainers the Alphafly Next % and ZoomX Next% are in question due to the height off the ground. According to Patrick the Next% sole is too high off the track for athletes to wear in races. The victory spike is in question due to the bubble at the ball of the foot. Right before the pandemic hit, we were testing a pair very similar and told them to send them back since they are not legal for NCAA athletes. The Dragonfly is in question because it is new. I have not heard anything specific but with all the other restrictions I have heard about track shoes I want to be sure.
"The NCAA rules committee met and discussed the question regarding the use of these particular shoes once again. The NCAA as an organization does not certify equipment. World Athletics has a very extensive policy for different disciplines and an officiating protocol in place which includes declaration of what shoes the athlete will wear in competition. The committee also considered the three divisions and the disparity in the level of officiating at competitions throughout the nation and could not find a reasonable way to monitor and adjudicate the use of these shoes in question. At this time, the NCAA rules committee's position is to allow the use of the shoes in question and to wait for a ruling to be rendered by World Athletics on their legality for competition."

I would agree with all of this too. I believe Robinson was also the class of 2020. Not American, but beat Nico in the indoor 5K and has a 13:20 to his name

Sprouts bad race as I recall was on a miserable (for everyone) and he was 7th I believe, 2 seconds out of 3rd, 4 seconds out of 2nd. Young dominated and won to his credit, but Sprout hardly blew up.
You might as well rename your website to Let's MF Run.
Tacky.
And it's the 10K, typically a graveyard event for talent.
Do you have any idea how good that field was? Nur won 3k and 5k indoors. Wildschutt and Kioko have been two of the 3 best in the NCAA at the last several championships, Jacobs is a footlocker national champ, Maier is a 13:25 guy, Hicks was 4th at NCAA XC, Sprout is one of the best HS talents of the last 5 years, James Mawara wasn’t a scorer and he is a 27:50 10km runner. I believe Kemboi is a 3x all american and he was 10th

I think he gets it. Almost everybody in the T15 at any NCAA event has some credentials if you go back to HS.
Frankly Kioko is probably the "fittest" of this crew but you can't go out at Cheptegei pace along in college and get away with it. I was incredibly impressed by how well he held it together after that.

That's such a cop out. It's pretty easy to eyeball the stack height on a shoe and know if it's not legal for track competition. A couple of officials in each meet could enforce it with nothing more than an iPad for visual reference.
The fact is, the NCAA is not playing by World Athletics rules. Whether you think that's a problem or not is up to you, but there's no way that any times run while wearing those shoes on the track should be able to count for either national or championship qualifying.

If Seb Coe had nipped this in the bud in 2016 Nike would have stopped making these cheater shoes.

There is an easy solution....no times from meets that do not enforce will be accepted for qualifying purpose
