Martin’s splits were almost perfect while Colon’s were less so. A runner does not need someone else with him to push himself to his limit so the comparison between the two is a possible benefit from drafting against even pacing. I’m thinking the performances are close to apples to apples.
Did umstead really say that, or some Sahlman shill? If he ran the extra 109 in 17.15 he runs the conversion....are you serious, did you see the race, in fact if he does not throw his hands up when seeing the clock? He may have run 3:34.10? Come on..He was not even stumbling in. The 1500 conversion game is done all the time, if you look at high quality mile marks. most of the 1500 to miles last 109 actuals are run in under 16.x
Of course it does. Big difference between converting an 800 versus a 1500 to a mile. 1500 conversions are accurate enough. Frankly, the 1500 is a stupid distance anyway. Just run four full laps plus a tad extra.
While it isn't perfect its not that uneven. He tucked behind the whole way and pushed himself and just barely ran out of gas, but not by much (closing in 61). You never know what your max pace is until you cross it, 3:53 pace was likely the goal (HS record), and his first 3 laps were around that pace. So this wasn't paced that badly. He couldn't hold on to that pace, which just means he isn't in HS record shape or the conditions weren't favorable enough. I mean yes, maybe he could have evenly split a 3:55 in these conditions, but that isn't that different from his result anyways. It's really impossible to say what Martin could run with someone in front of him, since every single mile he has run has been solo. Some people really repond to having someone in front, and others don't. We will never know until it happens.
