Pre Classic was never realistic, regardless of fitness. Nike controls the entries and the appearance money. She isn't on their 'Nice List.'
Some of the comments here are so bizarre. To the extent that Colleen continues to promote her sponsors through an injury cycle and a training build-up, it speaks more to her professionalism than anything else.
Athletes go dark constantly -- we just found out why Centro hasn't been racing, for example. These situations don't spark weekly speculative threads that we see for Colleen Quigley.
Honestly, the best comparison is Evan Jager. He's frequently injured, has long stretches of not racing (and even longer stretches without racing his premier event), and is likely closer to the end of his career than his prime.
Evan Jager isn't on the Pre Classic start list, but he does have an Instagram post up about his sponsor. Is Evan Jager a "washed up influencer pretending to be a pro runner?" Let's at least be consistent here.
Im a fan (-ish) of quigly but her situation is not really analogous to centro or jaeger. Quigly has not raced a steeple in almost exactly 3 years. In that time she has raced outdoors once. She is incredibly visible and is always trying to engage with fans, but NEVER about what is actually going on with her running. Thats what annoys people. If you want to be a pro runner ans you dont run your event for 3 years and youre constantly posting on social media about “running” without actually revealing anything, it all feels fake and is frustrating to follow
The good news is Jager finished his first steeple in 1323 days. The bad news is helooked like a shell of his former self but we have four silver linings for you.
I guess it’s true that we “see” more of his training in that BTC has Courtney White on retainer. But we have no idea what he’s actually doing. The same could be said of Quigley when she was with BTC.
I assume she decided it is more realistic to try for a 1500 qualifier for USAs than steeple.

In what universe is an Olympic medalist a fair comp?
Is she gonna race at all this season?? It seems she quickly running out of time to even get a time to get in to USAs?? according to her IG she appears to still be training…as for any racing this season???
2. Said race doesn't go well, so she pulls out of USAs with a lengthy explanation of why race #1 didn't go well (despite hyping it up beforehand on IG)
It's not a terrible strategy since it will draw attention on IG
She must be milking her "injury" for financial gains as she knows if she races, she'll reveal herself as unsponsporable based on poor results. It's pretty apparent that that's the case here. Or perhaps it's a nondisclosure agreement after testing for a PED. One or the other.
For someone who advertises hyperice/normatec and other recovery+strength products you have to wonder if any of this stuff actually works if she’s always injured.
