I think he's just young. I mute his interviews but what a talent. He can beat Granville's record but Sumner may lower the HS record to sub 1:45 before he can do it. Both great young runners.
I don’t care that he’s a trash talker, that can be fun, but he sounded like a dolt. What the sport needs are quick witted, humorous trash talkers. You know, Deon or Richard Sherman or Pedro Martinez. The kid is fast, but he sounds foolish. Needs to up his game on the mike to match it on the track.
SDSU..I would normally agree , but he kind of walks the walk, I mean..races and set ups dictate a lot, but this guy is really frigging good. I don't like the talk either, but there is only one race for him left, if he could face Sumner, I might travel for that. All the 1:48's or higher have no chance against him.In fact if he got in the right spot, maybe the HS record surely goes down? in a few weeks?Very fast 46.x speed..4:12 1600 strength? Not many guys have , or has that.
If that's what he ran, 1:46.51, that is the second best ever high school 800m. Give him credit. That is an incredible run and makes him a high school legend, breaking up the Granville/Kersh 1-2. He dropped over a half second with this one. If he was gapped on the first lap, then he didn't get a perfect ride to it, nor perfect splits. If it was 52.5/53.97, the splits were quite good but he could have gone out a bit faster in 52-52.3 and gotten the record, as just 0.06 is the margin to the record. He will surely get this record. Even if he doesn't, this insures that he'll have multiple appearances in the top ten hs performances list. And performance is the right word here.

For sure he’s talented and I’m rooting for him to run well but I strongly prefer humility. Having a special talent doesn’t make someone a special person.

Track is not the U.F.C. and does not need a trash talker. He’s only 18 (19?) and I’ll cut him a lot of slack but hopefully he’ll grow up a little before he ever represents the U.S. in the Olympics.

Deon? This is your example of quick witted, humourous?? Wtf? If you're partially brain damaged sure.
Many of the younger 800 US "phenoms" sound like they barely have two brain cells firing. Flatt sounds like a genius compared to them. Go Cade!!

i can't listen to anybody's post-race interviews. they always make me feel so uncomfortable. like when you're embarrassed for somebody that doesn't know they should be embarrassed.
anyway, trash talking works right? look at connor mcgregor. but sounds like this kid might be more nate diaz than connor mcgregor in terms of wit, yeah? kinda hope he's got nate vibes to be honest. we need this kid to go full-redart.
I just watched it and the truth is that he lost the record because he was forced out at the end of the last turn by, I think, Crisp, who got in his way. That's just racing, but it did make the difference here. Flatt was out there by himself for a long time and still ran this. The leaders were out too quick for him in 50.8 or so, so he was forced to run without drafting much of the race. That record is absolutely going down next month, and I bet that both Flatt and Sumner run 1:45.

Hey man, leave Nate Diaz out of this. He may not be the best fighter but he’s a good dude and one of the most entertaining guys in the UFC
He is such a great 800m runner that it's easy for me to separate his talk from his results. I think he will grow out of the talk as he gets older and competes against the best in the world at the senior level. I wish him the best.
