Why is McLaughlin getting so much negativity? Did I miss something that she did to make people on here not like her? I always thought she was a LetsRun favorite.
I'll admit I don't know much about her personally (didn't even know she was engaged), but she's fast, has exciting races, and seems to be a nice person and a hard worker (leading to inevitable comparisons to Jared Ward lol).
Congrats to Syd and Andre! I wish them all the best.
I have great respect for Sydney. She's an incredibly talented athlete, seems to be well grounded mentally and morally, and yeah, she's also a very beautiful young woman. I wish her continued success on the track and in life.
What you're missing: the sheer jealousy from these posters.
The thread is a prime example of what's wrong with this site. A WR holder, Olympic medallist (and not that it matters but v attractive) and OFC people are trying to find any reason to tear her down.... accusations of doping, saying her looks will fade, mocking her religion... this site really is home to some cretins.

What am I missing here?
You're missing that this is Letsrun and she is female.

Can you imagine how angry they will be in 2032 watching the coverage of the Brisbane Games?
Sydney McLaughlin: "What an electrifying performance by the women of Team USA Basketball getting a hard-fought win over a tough China squad to advance to the gold medal game! I'm Sydney McLaughlin. Welcome to prime-time coverage of the 35th Summer Olympiad from Brisbane on Amazon Prime Video. We have a lot of action for you tonight: men's water polo semi-finals, the quarter finals of women's beach volleyball, but first, let's get you out to the track for the women's 1500 meters final. With the call, my fellow former Olympian, Colleen Quigley..."
Personally, I can't find fault with anything she has done as an athlete. I am not a big fan of athletes getting glammed up to run a race or all the social media stuff, but I am the outlier. So far, she has matched her potential in an event where it does not happen often. Sid the Kid is perhaps leaving food on the table, she ran a respectable 12.75 100h. Although the time won't get you very far in the U.S., she appeared to overly focused running a clean race. It looked like a conservative training type effort.

I would watch that. Probably better than 90% of Olympic broadcasts I’ve seen.

Knowing a few people who know Sydney fairly well, I've been told she's a really good person as well as (obviously) a hard worker. I think she'll be pretty successful on the track through 2028, anyway. I don't know if she'll compete into her late 30s like some of these athletes. But anyone who's a star now and still in their early to mid 20s is almost certainly going to train and compete through 2028.
This changes nothing! This is a temporary setback. She'll notice me soon and then everything will be as it's supposed to. This Andre guy is a joke, she just doesn't see it because he tricked her. She'll be so much happier with me!
Am I taking crazy pills?! It's obvious gerwinstein is just joking, right? Otherwise he'd have picked someone like idk Rupp or Fisher. Why are people taking him seriously?
What a shame. Why marriage? If she wants to procreate, she doesn’t need a contract. Nowadays, it’s socially acceptable (if not fashionable) to get pregnant outside of wedlock. Besides, don’t they know that humans aren’t monogamous? Very few animals are. For their marriage to work long term they’ll need to take some lessons from a vole. Ultimately, this mistake will only hurt her running career.

Oh.. she’s a good person? And a hard worker? Boy, do I feel like the fool. Maybe it doesn’t really matter what she does with her eye-lashes if she sets world records and is being happily married. Maybe I was just offense by her autonomy as a young woman. Congrats to Sydney and the poor sucker she tricked into marriage
