The 1500 last year appeared to have a pacer - Therese Haiss (Unattached) led thru 700 in 2:01 and DNFd. I guess we find out later this week what happens this year.
Exactly! Both really good and close proximity... parks just won acc championship... 436... pretty good for covid freshman... In the high school race mentioned I think starliper could have Had the win. But they both created unnecessary contact.. And so the officials let it go...

unfortunately starliper and parks rematch wont happen in raleigh relays, parks is racing the 5000m, shes in section 5, starliper in 1500m section 15
Interesting, very interesting indeed! Parks is a mile specialist. Not sure what's going on here? Is it because of the fierce rivalry with starlipper? Security concerns? Trying to build endurance for a late season showdown? I wonder if it'll be a conservative effort? Tuohy, parks, Butler... R tops

maybe trying for a 1500m/5000m nationals double, but i really dont know why shes not running 1500m after a great indoor mile performance, if you look at the section 15, you got 800m runners, pros and tuohy whos developed a pretty nice kick, its a loaded field to start the season
i really hope marlee laces up and races this outdoor season because nc state needs her in november for cross country .. but i just want to say this
im quite concerned about marlee starliper always injuring herself when she tries to go back training hard, its been two years of constant non-stop injury left and right, knee, ankle, achilles, tendons, when we all thought she could run in the indoor season because she was an alternate runner for xc and as she said, running her best workouts ever, but as she starts training running on track.. she ends up injured again, they (nc state) have to do something different in building her up again, unlike the previous ones because it was certainly not the right way because she keeps getting injured, if they do something different and the result would be the same then i guess her body cannot endure hard workouts anymore, nor high-level running ...
but i commend her unending fight, and resilience over the non-stop injuries.. although i am a tuohy fan, and i want marlee to come back running again, not only she will be a good competition but she will be a great help to nc state this fall
2 months injured is already devastating, i cannot imagine what 2 years feels like

Agree. Parks should stay away from the 5K.
Section 5 looks like at high 16 minute heat to me, maybe even a little slower. Her teammate is in the same heat (Neglia). Not the worst thing to do coming off the indoor season and fast mile times Schulz of NC State who has not really run that much is in section 6. BTW, all six of the famed NC State recruits from the class of 2020 are scheduled to run (finally). Walters in 1500 (section 4), Hendrix in 5,000 (same heat as Parks), Quarzo in 10,000 (fast heat) complete the picture.

We are often hasty to pigeonhole athletes as 800, 1500, 10k specialists. Parks is for sure best known and strongest as a miler, but she was also a rare 4-time foot locker xc finalist in high school and aspires to be a part of NC's up and coming xc team (Brown, Neglia, Masciarelli).
It's no surprise to see her competing at 5k and 1500, as will Heymach, Tuohy, Bush etc as well. Most likely her best event will be 1500 and that's where we will see her at NCAA. 16:15 would be a solid 5k for her in 2022, as she has not run one yet in college.

Mareno graduated HS in 2017...FIVE YEARS ago. Now a junior for track eligibility. Surreal.
Given the injury attrition rate in the sport, especially on the women's side, red shirting does not bother me much. The normal college schedule is overlapping with a tricky stage in development.
in a podcast interview w coach henes, she said that they rarely use freshmen on xc championships unless the runner comes in and already is high level, obviously kelsey and katelyn were different, nc state had a pretty strong line up in 2020 and 2021 that they just needed freshman katelyn tuohy to join the line up
but this year is different, nc state will lose 3 seniors and needs to replace scorers, hays(i think), steelman, clairmonte
their 2022 recruits are fast but not on college level yet. . so i guess its why they are trying to get as much breakouts from all their 2020 recruits this year, and this will be exciting, they have an empire state gang there w/ jenna schulz, claire walters and brooke rauber! katelyn and kelsey would be so happy to run w them together again !
