I agree that the OAC lineup has the potential to destroy that--though I worry that Morgan McDonald has been too injured for that potential to come to fruition
I had written about this in our WTW this week. I said I had been told Penn wouldn't let them into the COA 4 x mile but there might be a pro/open event.
I wrote that Penn should let Newbury Park run in the COA 4 x mile. I get why they don't want the best HS teams regularly running college races as then it kills the HS stuff.
But this does the same thing for the COA 4 x mile. IF you are Princeton , who has 3 sub-4 guys or someone, do you really want to waste your time in the 4 x mile on Saturday when you can run in better conditions at night against better teams? The precedent has been set. They are letting HS teams run pro events so why not college?
I think the call now is for Penn to get rid of the COA 4 x mile. There is going to be zero prestige to that now. The sprint fans don't want to watch 16 minutes of strung out distance action anyways. Just have this 4 x mile be the only 4 x mile. You can hand out watches to the top college team - just like they do in the 10,000. They used to have college and open and then it got combined I believe.
That’s a ridiculous idea for an anomaly HS team. NP recruits kids from far and wide. This coach is angling for a college job. He’s going to run out of Youngs and Sahlmans at some point.
College and open were never combined. Do you ever do any research?
"Racing" - more precisely they are part of the same contested exhibition. Both looking to shatter applicable 4xmile records/best. If Bowerman was any fun, we'd see them field a team, which would go off as underdog but would have a shot (Ahmed, Fisher, Thompson and Centro/Scott/Woody?)
20% chance at best that OA even fields a healthy team.
Far and wide? The Youngs and Salhmans live no further than 10 minutes from NPHS.
They have runners from Simi Valley, Valencia, West Hills, Santa Clarita and other areas that are up to 40 minutes away. Only Doshi and Appleford live in the school district from the top 8 boys.

I don't know the exact boundaries of the areas from which NPHS permits attendance but it extends much further than the school district. That's a NPHS policy and not a NP track team recruitment policy, so there's nothing wrong with kids deciding to come to NPHS from outside the strict school district limits. The vast majority have come to NPHS for academic reasons. For example, NPHS offers the IB where some of the neighboring high schools do not.

You don’t know why they came. I’m from one of the schools where someone transferred from. Trust me, it’s not all above board. You are making an assumption, I’m telling you a fact.

private schools can recruit whoever the hell they want. who cares that a public school is too

Please name them. If the Youngs and Sahlmans live 10 minutes away in Camarillo, Doshi and Appleford are in the school district, then only Hector Martinez comes from a significant distance away.

if we are conceding that they even recruit in the first place. there program was wholly insignificant when Nico chose to go there and he didn't break out until his sophomore year anyway
I have mixed feelings - I understand why they would want to run in pro races instead of the various state qualifications, but NP has a shot at winning the state title off of only distance events, or just trying to shatter records instead.

Either way, I wish them the best.
They would never win the state title unless they ran 2 or three events each. That is ridiculous. That would be a terrible coach to make them do that.

I wouldnt be too worried. Morgan has run 3:55 multiple times in the same 24-hour period. It would only be a matter of time before he regained the ability to do one. Last I heard, Morgan was re-orienting his stride as a result of injury and reassessment after the Olympic Games. I think the story in 2024 will be how Morgan was running on a whim and underprepared during the 2021 Games. He'll be there in 2024. Frankly, I think he would be running right with Grant Fisher if healthy.
Ollie is probably the strongest leg for OAC. He can run 3:51 in his leg. Beamish is definitely sub-4 but you never know what youre going to get, not sure a solo run is best suit for him. Still, anything from 3:53 to 3:57 is possible for him.
I would put Beamish as lead off, Klecker, safebet Morgan third to Ollie last.

So Camarillo is not in NP school district? That makes no sense, you probably should check what school district Camarillo is located before you spread false information.
