These BTC athletes are playing with fire. They're in a very gray area at best. I don't see the benefit for BTC or the individual athletes. I get it, they're buddies with her and think she's innocent, but the optics of this is terrible. Do they really not see how smarmy it makes them look?

no one in the sport is really putting any pressure on them to act differently. They are all anti doping and then their bud gets popped and its a full 180. Absolutely done with these guys and girls. No respect for them. used to be a fan of BTC.
If runners and media who have traditionally spoken up for clean sport when it involves someone they don't know or don't like, don't open their mouth about Shelby Houlihan clearly doping, I'm done with them too. Stop whining that you are on the line with dopers if you aren't able to call out someone who TESTED POSITIVE AND LOST THE APPEAL right in front of you. I don't want to hear it from any of them.

It's such a joke. and it is super disrespectful. Shelby's a banned athlete. There is nothing that proves she was innocent whatsoever.
I get being shellshocked your little friend was popped. But it's a little shocking to me that all these months later, no one in the sport is speaking up about how ridiculous it is that they are whining about the "factz of the case!" when all the facts point to her cheating?
What a waste and a liar.
and shame on them for helping her.
FYI those shots by Cortney White are from last year's Flagstaff camp. That's the photographer sharing pics from last year and asking "what do you want to see when I go up to photographer the team" - she then said she had to cancel the trip for covid related reasons and hasn't made it to Flag yet.
So she's in the btc photos as part of the team...
That's obviously "associating".... wtf.
Oh I didn't realize these photos were from last year.
But she was still banned last year wasn't she? I think starting January last year?
I know she appealed and that was denied in June, but she was still banned at that point. (Hence that slimy attempt to sneak into the Olympic trials bs)
A key word seems to be organised. So I can see no reason why a group of friends can’t sort something out independent of the club as there seems no ban on individuals training together. It would not be unlike going to a commercial gym with a few buddies.
However if it is deemed a breaking of the rules then the consequences are tough; the ban re-starts from zero.

Yes they are buddies, but I highly doubt that they "think she's innocent".

They may be convinced she is not a cheat.

Certainly possible.

The positive test was in December but I dont believe the ban was finalized until June, with the period in between being "provisionally suspended" or something to that effect. I doubt she would have the same restrictions at that point, although i admit to not having read the full guidelines.
she definitely trained with the team through June.
Okay--the pics were from last year. It's still a bit distasteful for the photog to post them, and she had to know she may be inviting confusion around what Shelby is doing.
Rumor has it Shelburrito is training for a 3K time trial scheduled around the time of indoor USAs.
Her provisional suspension started on January 14, 2021. AIU defines that as follows:
A Provisional Suspension is when an Athlete or other Person is suspended temporarily from participating in any competition or activity in Athletics prior to a final decision at a hearing conducted under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules or the Integrity Code of Conduct.
Are banned athletes subject to random testing while serving their ban? If not, what stops an athlete from doping to the gills and reaping the fitness benefits?
For example, someone on a long ban continues to train at a high level with like talent and is doing illicit stuff. They exit their ban period and then immediately set a record at 10K or the marathon. They will be tested of course but, four years of freely dosing something like EPO would have huge benefits even after clearing it from your system in time for competition.

Shelby was tested 11 times in 2021 after her positive test was known. That is actually down from 16 tests in 2020.

Honestly enjoy listening to the boys wildly speculate on things, but especially this.
Is she being coached, is she working out right after them or is she just doing her own thing?
BIG gray area and lots of room for people to get into trouble
Not a "gray area" at all...get back to us when you see her in a USATF or IAAF competition.
