I mean seriously, they were obviously overshadowed by Newbury Park this year, but they've got to be at least an all time top 15? I mean they have 4 sub 14ers and a team average 16 seconds faster than the previous national record...

Times at RunningLane are nearly irrelevant, but they are a very strong team and would easily have been national title favorites in any other year.
Yes, I agree that they are easily the best non-Newbury Park team. Very deep team 1-7.
Their number 1 runner at runninglane was Knox Exton, who had a 19:30 5k as a freshman. That improvement is just incredible.
Actually, he ran a 17:55 at the Palmer JV Cross Country Open Championships 2018.
It doesn't look like they travelled out of state at all this spring.
4:14, 4:14, 4:18, 4:19. Factor in 5 to 7 seconds sea level conversion and you're looking at a team flirting with sub-17...that could be a pretty strong 4 x Mile if they choose to do one.
But definitely not as strong as Newbury Park’s 4 by mile
Yup, way to bring this thread back to NP too. You'd think there was only one team in the entire country.
Don’t forget that they have two transfers from other schools:
Tyler Nord and Kaden Levings
Check this out..
Both Cheyenne Mountain and Farmington did better than Unattached - UT and Unattached - AZ.
Cheyenne Mountain should not surprise anyone. They train with a club called Kokopelli in the off season.
Now, the big question is, will they keep up with the top Colorado/Utah teams in the coming years?
This will be hard for them to do next year for sure. They are losing 6 seniors.
Not entirely true.
3 of them trained with Kokopelli in middle school and again for some of the off seasons. Those 3 also trained with their HS club during other off seasons. One of them trained with his dad. The other 3 only trained with their HS club.
Why is training with a club so frowned upon in distance running. No other sport do kids catch flack for private coaching.
People need to realize that not every school in the US has excellent distance coaches.
...is frowned upon even more? Not running for your school's team at all. As in, you train and race unattached and the school coach doesn't know you exist. Not OK according to the court of public opinion.
I doubt there are very many kids that are choosing to not participate for their team if the team/coach is good. So why run for a team that has a terrible coach or program? That Kid doesn't owe the school or the team anything, way too much entitlement by the good old boy system in our sport where coaches have huge egos and they think the kids are their to serve them.
Private coaches are fine, but don’t expect to be part of the hs team. The only animosity is some private coaches cherry pick talented athletes, whereas a hs coach will coach whoever shows up.
They got a solid squad set up for next year too. Look what they have returning:
Kaden Leavings - 14:41 5K
Carter Bayer - 9:49 3200
Harrison Wade - 9:54 3200
Brian Kerrigan - 15:47 5K
Cale O’Day - 10:21 3200
Lucas Klein - 10:20 3200
Brogan Collins (freshman) - 10:22 3200
Not that they’ll be one of the best teams in the region or nation, but they are reloading quite nicely. They are solid through 4 guys, but need a #5.
Actually O’Day and Klein ran a 9:59 at RunningLane
Was this Cheyenne Mountain team better than the 2017/2018 Loudoun Valley teams?
1:49.84 - 800m Freshmen National Record - Cooper Lutkenhaus (check this kick out!!)
