How much do they win state by even if you remove a set of brothers from the front? Still several points? Their 5th and 6th runners could be 1-2 on almost every team in the state. Many coaches would be happy with having his results completely disregarding the first 4 who are all top 10 in the nation, maybe top 5? Everyone wants to act like his team is just the first 4 when really there are other good runners on it too. I don't know about the future of the program after this, but I think Newbury Park will be hunting titles for many years to come.
How about removing both Sahlmans and both Youngs?
Their next 3 were 7th, 9th, and 26th. Doshi was fighting for the seventh spot against Cantu and Blunt, so those two probably would have been in the top 30 also. So yeah, NP would have won still
Does anybody know if there are any talented kids from the feeder programs that will come to NP in the next 2 years?
welp, we got some data now. Today, Freshman boys went (3 mile times) 2 Dickran 16:18 5 Sloan 16:25 6 Bernardino 16:28 12 Shearer 17:37 43 Sax 19:46 a 4:39 1600 guy (younger Cantu) might go there. He is in 8th grade. Also Zasloff who ran a sub-5 who is still in middle school. I see max Rhoe went sub-5 last spring. Don’t see him on any rosters so he’s probably still in MS
Girls freshmen (3 mile times) 6 grant (varsity) 18:49 Rest were JV 12 Markowitz 22:51 17 maturo 23:09 20 konkader 23:27 39 nese 25:46 No idea of any 8th grade girls going to np a year from now
Nobody actually thinks 4:20 isn't fast lol. Everyone with more than 3 braincells understands that the coach is trying to make a point about not settling limits on themselves based on preconceived beliefs of what is considered "fast".

I can't believe people on here still fall for that comment and believe it.
I still do think saying 4:20 is not fast is an insult to most high schoolers.
It’s actually wayyyy above average for a high schooler.
Then you'll never understand what fast really is. And that's OK we can't all be great or fast.
The coach himself was a rather mediocre athlete in his day, I suppose because he didn't have a coach, like his future self, to tell him how not fast all his PRs were. Maybe somebody can put his PRs in list on a tshirt with "Aren't Fast," maybe he could improve himself yet.

Yeah maybe his coach wasn’t great. I remember hearing in an interview him saying that when he was in HS the 2nd guy on his team was running 19 minute 5k’s
Lex, Leo, Doshi, Aaron, Seymour and Cantu’s times were slow, so I assume that they were all going easy (not sure why they did not finish as a group however).
7th guy was a different guy this time. Porter was way back in 17min. They will have to flip a coin. They actually only ran 6 guys in varsity race. 7th guy is very unclear at this point.

7th spot is up for grabs, unless Hector Martinez comes back. Not sure what kind of shape he would be in.
maybe he will try to stick with whoever their #6 is - most likely that would be Cantu.
or maybe he is in the same shape as freshmen like Dickran or the juniors that aren’t doshi.
If Hector doesn’t return, the coaches don’t need to flip a coin for who will get the 7th spot.
People will be racing off for it later in the season. Last year Doshi was fighting for it against Zaki Blunt. At the CIF-SS Division Prelims (Day 2) 2021 Doshi was the first NP guy to finish, so that’s when he got the 7th spot.
I too was surprised that Porter finished so far back behind their top 6 on JV. He didn’t race last time so he was probably sick or injured.
I also thought that Watson would be up with their top 6 based on the 4:39 that he ran in track. He wasn’t even the top soph last meet but in this meet he was. At least that’s progression to translate track times to XC.
Anyway, NP is running their B team at the Woodbridge sweepstakes race. I think their top 7 in this JV meet will be the top 7 that will run there. Hopefully Porter makes that squad and does better at Woodbridge than in this meet.
Don’t forget at NP also got a junior transfer Brandon Guevara who ran a 4:35/10:02 last spring. He will be sitting out for a while but will be allowed to compete on varsity starting Oct 3.
I hope someone beats him out for the 7th spot though, so that it doesn’t make it look like he is illegally competing for varsity this year.
Actually why didn’t Guevara run in this race? I thought all transfers are allowed to run JV.
If he does end up making the top 7 though, it will remind me much of Loudoun Valley when they got 2 new transfers in 2017, and 2 in 2018 make their top 7.
If someone beats Guevara for the 7th spot that would be nice. It will make next year’s team really strong.
