50:42 at the Great South Run to end a great season. Can't wait to see what she can do in the marathon. If she debuts in London and it's a good day, I think she'll run 2:22

Kind of ironic since Paula is known for going number one in the street.
Dammit, 4th on the all time list. LRC needs and edit button
Going to say this again. The marathon is a bad fit for her running style and physique. She should stick to the track.

This came up in another thread recently; it seems #2 is in fact what you’re thinking of.

She's said herself that she likes the space she gets running on the roads compared to the track. Anyway, she has experienced advisors who will know what's best for her, like her mum, who has a pretty good CV

Well then….. I stand corrected. Had no idea she crapped on the street during that race.
This site is a cornucopia of pertinent running related knowledge. Lol
It is right in line with her track PR of 30:58. I'm sure magic shoes on the pavement didn't hurt. The roads are now the same as the track in performance terms now, maybe slightly faster.

According to WA scoring, her 10 mile is equivalent to a 30:34 10000m so quite a lot better. It's also equivalent to a 67:10 HM which sounds about right as she ran 67:4x at the GNR recently on a tough course

And she still won the race
Useless without pics.

In to say Eilish McColgan's ponytail should be illegal. It's huge, unruly, and out of control. Pretty sure I've seen it whip other women in the face on the track.
CONTROL YOUR HAIR
At age 30, she just ran a great pr of 14:28 this season. 5000m is easily her best distance. Her 10k pr, 30:58, run in February, should be more like 29:45-50 to be commensurate, and faster to indicate that her true talents lie in the marathon. She is fast enough at 5000m to be able to run faster than 2:18 but this doesn't indicate she'll be better at marathon than 10000m.

Looks like Fartlek training paid off for her…..

14:28 is worth 1226 points in the WA scoring charts, equivalent to 30:23 for the 10,000. It's also equivalent to a 2:20.46 marathon.
May be worth noting that her 10k (road PR), set a month ago, is 30:52 and she ran it badly - went out at what was then the WR pace before crashing at 6k and hanging on. Better pacing, and she would have had 30:30 in sight
The runner's trots. Cool name. It's happened to all of us, but usually just during a training run with no one around. Definitely not fun. You'd think elite runners heading into a big race would know to take a mild laxative before competing. There is literally no result ever that could make up for being seen takin a growler mid-race or finishing covered in your own excrement.

Oh I don't know, just shows how committed they are and get a new level of kudos from me.

In the tiny community of hard core running fans, sure perhaps respect. But for 99.9% of people who see the pic/hear the story and don't see a WR or gold medal result attached, it is galactic cringe.
Don't have anything to add other than I became a huge fan of her over the last year. She clearly works very hard, shed raced all year and busted her tail in every one of them, and mixed it up with some road races and even a HM debut at the end. And she's still finding ways to improve.
