Looks like footlocker is happening this year with registration opening on October 15, but with a new name Eastbay!

Great move, Eastbay!
You know they are both the same company essentially, right? Same parent ownership, Footlocker and Eastbay. I think Dick's Sporting Goods might be in that too.
Doesn't have the same ring to it and now they have reduced it down to 8 runners per region qualify. So a total of 32 boys and 32 girls make it to San Diego. we need to be growing our sport and allowing more opportunity not shrinking it!
I think it is time Eastbay just move on and go away.
It used to be 8 back in the day and the race was top notch with the best 32 HS runners in the country competing.
If Eastbay moves on then we have ZERO .
Welcome Eastbay !!

Quit whining. It was Kinney before it was Footlocker. It was also originally 8 from each region as well. Be happy Eastbay stepped up to do this to “grow the sport” in the middle of a pandemic with a junk economy. By the way, what have you done to grow the sport? Bîtching on a random message board certainly doesn’t do any favors.
Haha, what did Footlocker do last year to grow the sport?
And I'm sorry we are not in the middle of a pandemic anymore. When football stadiums have 100k plus in the stands you can't tell me cancelling a cross country event is following the science.

Dick's is a different and larger company.
FL does own Eastbay though. FL is a weird company, they sell what seems to me to be a limited selection of shoes in brick and mortar stores yet they make bank. I, for example, would never shop in a FL store and my guess is most runners don't yet they're thriving in a cutthroat high overhead business. Eastbay is fine, I shop there on occasion. Maybe EB makes all the money, I don't know...

You are incorrect, RunningLane is in its 2nd year and has an absolute STACKED field with almost all of the best teams and many top individuals already committed!
Newbury Park has committed to RunningLane...if you're one of the top 32 individuals, wouldn't you want to go there to run against those guys instead of Eastbay?
Just some of the top Boys and Girls going to Runninglane that are competing as individuals and this list obviously doesn't include all the incredibly fast runners from the committed teams. I know Letsrun is full of boomers, but maybe check out Instagram and see all the commits for runninglane that is what I did.
By the looks of this list if you want to race against the best this year I think the choice is obvious.
Sam Rich
Aidan Cox
Riley Hough
Zack Munson
Jackson Shorten
Jamar Distel
Woodrow Dean
Myles Liss-Riordan
Gary Martin
Isaac Teeples
Luke Wiley
Girls:
Bethany Michalak
Ava Parekh
Caroline Bauer
Cameron McConnell
Katelyn Maley
Riley Chamberlain
Mckenna Mazeski
Emma Stutzman
Grace Harman
Running Lane is the place to be this year individuals and Teams. It will be fun to watch! Congrats to the people who stepped up to put this on!
Where does it say it is reduced to 8 runners?

Is RunningLane paying for travel and lodging for individuals?

I couldn't tell you, but even Eastbay is only paying for 64 total kids to travel (assuming they are still doing that), anyone that wants to do regionals is footing the bill to go all over the country to HOPE to qualify for a 32 person race. Why have the barrier to entry, why not just let the fastest teams and individuals go head to head?
Riley MF Hough who just beat one of Ritz' all time records is now ranked #1 in Milesplit.....guess where he is running this post season?

Because sneaker heads buy every color of whatever stupid shoe an nba player wears.

Agree.
Why take over only to do it smaller and worse than the previous organization? At a bare minimum they should keep it the same.
Complaining about the regions going from 10 to 8 is such a bad take.

Sure, the field is smaller, but back to the 32 it was for years. Why worse? I’ve heard the FL experience is fantastic and what makes you think it will be any different this year. The attention 64 total athletes and the perks provided have to be far superior to the individual experience a top runner would get when mixed in with the over 1,000 runners at RL. Also, if not from CA, getting flown to San Diego and given a bunch of swag, hanging out with pros, etc has to be attractive when compared with footing your own bill to fly to AL.
What about comparing it to another event that stepped up for the kids during the pandemic? Or comparing it to the event that will have better competition? Isn't XC a team sport?
