Tokyo, LA, San Fran, etc. It’s a matter of when not if they end up getting hit with a quake that will end up looking like a movie starring the Rock.

San Francisco suffered a major earthquake in 1989 and the only damage was to some older houses in the Marina District that had been built on unstable landfill.

sort of, that was Loma Prieta, aka santa cruz mountains, over 50 miles away, and it liquefacted the bridge supports of the 280 or 101 in SF, among many other things
1906 was a bit different. The # of multi-story buildings that survived the quake itself were few. The number of multi-story that survived both the quake and the fire you can count on two hands
