Agree, we should celebrate excellence no matter if not American.
CJ is not an idiot. He's still going to finish in 2:11. But I don't really see it as ballsy. He ran his own pace and the Kenyans decided they could spot him some distance.

Not bad for an slow ultrarunner.

Actually this coverage is terrible. No one knows where anyone is. Did I hear anything about Desisa getting dropped? No. How about all the other americans? No. They just cant get it right.
One day, everyone will realize that these networks treat this as any other special or community event. They treat it like it's the 4th of July or something like that. It's not about the racing because 99% of the viewers wouldn't know anything anyway.

Incredibly bad coverage overall. No perspective provided. No updates on other runners. But when you get the name of the dude that led for 20 miles wrong, you should probably not be announcing marathons.

There is a huge difference between commentating a 1500m where there is pretty much no down time, you can just talk for 4 minutes straight and have something relevant to say the entire time.
Marathon commentating is a different animal. You have to some much air time to fill with your knowledge. An unsung skill for sure
Let’s all take a moment to recognize the great Sage Canaday was once 16th at Boston.
2:11:43 for tenth.
Bennie in 2:11:26 for 7th and has now beat Fauble in three straight races.
I do too. I think Kara is great
Why so much TV love for the front runner birthday guy while Colin Bennie already had finished as first American.
Bennie Colin USA 6th in 2:11:26

He wrote his life story the way that he wanted to today. The haters will rant because he didn't write it as they would write theirs or the way they would want him to write his.
Screw the haters. Most of them never achieve jack. Most of them are way too cowardly to do what he did today, even if they had the ability.
I think I'd do well commentating a marathon!
I'd be the 'dumb' guy who explains stuff to the regular folk.. because, you know, a lot of non-runners watch marathon coverage!🤔🙃
CJ could have nabbed a top 5 had he sat in the pack, maybe even 2nd. but where's the fun in that. 10th and 211 is still brilliant
7th
LetsRun trolls. Americans are wimps. They never take risk in marathons and are afraid to blow up.
Also LetsRun trolls. CJ is an idiot for taking a chance and going for it.

When he still had the lead I posted the the over/under should be tenth or better/eleventh or worse.
Vegas needs to hire me. : )
What's up with people in here saying some guy "should have" run it a certain way?
Maybe it comes across differently online than it would in person... In person, people would be armchair-quarterbacks, but in a decent way.
Online, it's hard to come across without sounding like a jerk or getting flamed.
As far as a top runner goes, he did what he wanted and what he thought was best. None of us can say what he SHOULD have done!
PS: why is it so hard to find marathon coverage online (video)?
