I beg to differ here. Heel drop is very relevant any time you're driving with your heels, which you are, otherwise you won't develop any power. Try doing squats without driving from your heels. Ideally you could generate that power with your feet flat on the ground but most people need a little heel lift to get that power. I think some people in the minimalist movement got a little carried away with the forefoot strike idea and it has resulted in some misunderstandings.
I have not tried any of these shoes but I'd be curious how they affect downhill running. My guess is increased risk of rolled ankles.
