What a weird economy we're living in. I wasn't aware that 50 million people worldwide consider themselves self-employed as "content creaters."

Bro, you need to do this.
Travel. Run. Make videos.

You are a content creator here. Do you get paid?

No, he said creater. He loves certain self-employed creaters like Dave Ramsey and Donald Trump.

Is Bill Maher jealous because his "content" is no longer interesting to people? Weird. Maher should just retire, his age is showing.

Ain't that the truth. He seemed old in the '90s, now he's just Andy Rooney 2.0.
"content creater"??? Putting people down all the time, being so frigg'in needy,....Could you be any more unlikeable?
And how does Bill Maher make money? Oh right, people tune in to his show to watch him make jokes. That's soooo useful and important.
Jamin you are a online creator too, but a bad one.
So I'm a Brit but isn't this fella a comedian/TV host? He's literally a content creator. So he's just raging on himself? Or just upset that people can now do it themselves outside the confines and razzmatazz of Hollywood etc? Seems like a smart chap...
Maher's getting more and more ornery and crotchety ever week now, and his disdain for his own audience is undisguised. This isn't going to end well.
I see all the Gen Zer's are out in force to attack Maher. I'm not a fan but he speaks the truth.
Reality is, content creation IS a garbage job, utterly meaningless, a form of desperate grifting for suckers to round up to watch their otherwise mundane existence and buy awful products.
It always ends up like watching a really bad tv show and wondering why you wasted 30min of your life. And their benefit to humanity is zero. Just ask the Kardashians.
AT the end of the day you're just another member of another type of sh!!ty rat race.
Maher is right, almost all of the instabums are real world bums. Content creation involving teaching a specialized skill is one thing. But posting pictures of yourself to sell products has a short lifespan: you are using the best learning years of your life not learning useful skills and you’ll soon be too old to be attractive enough to push products but don’t have any other skills at that point. Celebrities are the exception, not the norm.
Content creators like Kofuzi or Demoor are here to stay though. I sometimes wonder what exactly makes their subscribers tune into them regularly. They are not exactly teaching specialized skills although there’s maybe a small component of that. I think they are simply providing entertainment to their viewers by talking about things of interest to their viewers and combining it with good video footage and editing skills. I myself like watching Kofuzi’s videos as idle entertainment occasionally though not dedicatedly.
But there’s a limit to how many people can make a career out of getting eyeballs. Just like with Hollywood acting or modeling, there are way more people trying than are actually successful, so it’s not easy at all.
Late night TV clown who's an employed content presenter makes fun of small businesses in place of his jealous viewers. Deliberately not getting it is the shtick that mean rodents like this guy use to shield themselves.

Indeed. Maher seems to be vastly overestimating his own contribution to society. But I suppose it's easy to overestimate zero. Even his jokes aren't that amusing anymore.

We have been witnessing this in Hollywood for decades now. Nothing new. That said, there is a lot of content out there that is very useful, entertaining and creative and generally better than TV. We are just witnessing the decentralization of entertainment, you should expect an ocean of trash upon which some beautiful islands reside. Ignore more and look harder and you will better enjoy this sea change the entertainment world is undergoing.
This is like Walmart complaining that the local farmers market and craft show is total garbage. Some of it is much worse than Walmart, some of it is much better.
There are a lot of channels on cable and only one if you are lucky have anything worth watching at any given time. Streaming services have better content. YouTube was a lot of garbage, but there is also a ton great content.
This is just an old man yelling at the clouds. Time has passed him by.

Pretty much. In the old days content creators had to work their way yup. No you just post a YouTube vid. Without the gatekeepers of the past, we get to see all the crappy stuff that never made it in the past.
We had travel/lifestyle journalist for decades. This is no different.
He’s always been arrogant and quite crotchety. Except, now instead of bashing the Tea Party and Trumpers, he occasionally bashes the woke left.
I admire him for going after his own party. He can say a lot of things that others cannot say. I find about half of his routine annoying, but he has some definite bright spots.
Our society is going down the tubes. You used to have to hide the fact that your are a wh0re or a stripper, but now it’s celebrated. He sees it, and knows it won’t end well without significant change.
What exactly does Bill think he does that is different from being a content creator?
