Now the REAL challenge begins ... finding a hotel that is within your price range! Reserve early! I recommend finding something near a MBTA station.
You should have booked it in September. Rookie mistake, buddy.

What's better, to be near the start line or finish line?
My wife reserved a place about 0.9 miles from the finish (just past mile 25) and I think it's going to be good, but it's not cheap. Plus, I've never run Boston before.
Definitely better to be near the finish. The expo was located at the Hynes Convention Center at the corner of Hereford and Boylston. On race day, gear check is at Boylston and Arlington Street and the busses to the start are in Boston Common on Charles Street. You will take a bus to Hopkinton to the start. I believe the only bus returning to Hopkinton after the race is for locals who live in that area. If you get a hotel near the start, you will probably need to provide your own transportation back. I stayed outside the city and rode the MBTA to everything.

It's going to be great. I was about a mile pasts the finish this year, and walking back to my hotel after the race was fine. Your location will put you closer to the expo, closer to checking out the course, and closer to the buses on race morning than I was. My location was good, but yours is great. (The one nice thing about my room was that Marathon Tours way overbooked rooms for the 2021 race, then had to release a bunch in August, so I got a great room for much less than usual race weekend rates.)
I think it's a waste of money staying in a hotel that close. I don't mind commuting on the T for like 20-25 minutes and paying $50 a night for my airbnb.

Valid, but in 2018, when I was staying at the seaport and had to sit in the freezing rain in that clusterf%^& to get my bag back from bag check, I really wished I had a hotel near the finish line where I could just walk up and get dry. and it's much more convenient to get to events on Newbury, the expo, meet up with friends, etc. It's not just about comparing the price per room; the rooms near the finish line are so expnsive bcause they really enhance the experience.

Oh, good. Thanks, a lot for the tip. Sounds like you got an excellent deal.
was no different - marathon tours blocks 90% of the rooms - and they weren't selling them then - so scarcity = high prices
I’m boycotting until they recognize the science. You know, natural immunity. And once this thing fizzles out, yeah it happens eventually and we are 24 months into this, are they going to keep the same asinine virtue signaling policy?
No tourist dollars for them until they reverse this.

Who cares. If you don’t like their rules just run another race.
0:00 cutoff says it all. Expect a reversal next year.
