Are the Olympics still international?

Impossible for the 100-200-400-800-1500-5k to be soft because they are saturated and run often. 400H and steeplechase and mile could be weak. 10k could be a but weaker than 5k.
Amen. Who the heck determined that anything outside of 50k walk (or run) was a soft record? MJ and UB soft?
Kerley should return to the 400. This article on Dutch training techniques made me more convinced. They break down their 400 athletes into two categories...flyers and diesel. They have different training methods for each. Flyers start fast then begin to hit the wall. Diesels open slowly but have great endurance. Femke Bol was switched to 400 hurdles because she is considered an extreme diesel by 400 standards, and therefore benefits from the 4 extra seconds of 400 hurdles compared to 400 flat.
The Dutch coach makes an excellent point, that if you look throughout history the races are typically won by flyers. Fred Kerley will never be a flyer in the 100 or 200. He's coming late. But he would be a flyer at 400. It is the same dynamic with Miller-Uibo on the women's side. She's got no chance in the 200 against an elite flyer like Thompson-Herah. But put Miller-Uibo in the 400 and all of a sudden she's the flier. We've seen her struggle late in that event but as long as she doesn't completely collapse she's already put sufficient margin on the diesels:

WVN is sub-20 and sub-10 too.
Or it's clear it has been a soft year for the 100 and 400.
Watching all these people running in the mid 19s for 200 (faster than Kerley) tells me the 200 WR is soft too. Used to be common wisdom that it should be less than twice the 100m WR.
Please STOP, soft, what??? What????

Incorrect. For instance, in the Tokyo final he was out the best, then got eclipsed in the middle/end by Jacobs, and ADG also closed the gap. He runs tight at the end. He is not a “diesel” just because he may sometimes be behind a guy like Baker early.
And the “Dutch” analysis is grossly oversimplified as far as the short sprints are concerned—so much so that I won’t get into it. A race can be trained, even the start. All the best are the best at the start and the finish. ADG is the best that has a weaker start. Fahnbulleh is the only real “diesel” out there, and he is still very early in his career, and un-developed in the short sprint.
