Also I should note from a strategy/tactics POV, this race kinda of has two opposing personalities -
1) start -> Col du Grand Ferret, the highpoint and roughly 100k mark, which is largely runnable and somewhat favors raw running talent.
2) Ferret -> finish. Starting with the l-o-n-g descent off the pass, the terrain starts getting rougher in a Hardrock kind of way, somewhat favoring strength/grit over raw running talent.
Both Jim/Tim come from the more traditional running talent background favored in the beginning, but interestingly enough, Tim's success came from great late-race surges through the rough stuff. He just ran out of real estate to track down the leaders. For his part Jim needs to pace himself better to save a little for late.
