As I've said quite eloquently before, Americans need to get off Centro's nut sack as well as the other Americans. The Euros, Kenyans and Aussies have stepped up their game over the last 5 years, the US is in a transition period. Again, look at the trials final:
2 college kids - Hock/Nug zero international experience, one hasn't even run the qualifier
1 past his prime - Centro hoping to recapture what he had 5 years ago
1 "personality" - Dingles who has never been a factor in major competition
The rest of that field just forgettable names that no one would ever confuse with elite international runners.
There just isn't much there.
The funny thing about this whole discussion is the narrative about DL "time trials". TT my ass, they're also running to win and make prize money. And they're extending themselves and testing their capabilities against the best.
If you want the true definition of a time trial look no further than the US and these setup Portland meets and Centro against the clock workouts. That's all they ever run and I suspect most of it is because if they went to a really competitive meet in Europe it would destroy their confidence. And I wonder if promoters are even inviting them.
