Ignoring all the little snarky remarks the pro-lockdown & anti-lockdown sides take at each other there needs to be a real conversation in Australia on what the goal in regard to COVID is.
I think it’s become pretty clear that while the vaccine is effective Covid, especially newer variants, can absolutely still spread among vaccinated people and a very small percentage of those people will succumb to the virus. That being said I think the “powers that be” in Australia often repeated goal of no community transmission is just not viable over a long period of time. If Australia vaccinates it’s entire population then the Covid death rate will be very close to 0% but probably not absolutely 0.
Now if Australia locks down its borders and does reoccurring lockdowns whenever a single case of Covid pops ups it’s ugly head it’s possible to limit any kind of spread but will the population be willing to accept this situation indefinitely?
