The New Zealand and Australia vaccination effort has been among if the worst, if not the absolute worst in the developed world. But COVID nationalism is very high in both New Zealand and Australia so most citizens of both those countries go around congratulating themselves on how great they handled COVID (read Facebook comments regarding COVID out of New Zealand especially- the self congratulations is nauseating).
You know you're calling a small area being asked to wear masks on public transport 'a lockdown'.
Why be so dishonest?
In NZ from the article-
“Under New Zealand’s alert level two conditions, gatherings are limited to fewer than 100 people, social distancing must be observed in public places, and masks are compulsory on public transportation”
Wellington, where the lockdown is taking place, is the 9th largest region of NZ encompassing over 10% of the total population of the country. It’ll be like imposing a lockdown on California in the USA.
In Australia from Article-
“The areas of Sydney to be locked down midnight are Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and City of Sydney, all in the center of the metropolis. The four reasons to leave are shopping for essential goods, medical care or compassionate needs, outdoor exercise, and essential work or education that can’t be done
from home.”
Also
“Australia’s so-called “Covid-zero” strategy is under increasing strain, with an outbreak of the delta variant forcing at least half-a-million residents of Sydney into lockdown for a week.”
Sydney is the largest city in Australia.
