Legendary performances by the Oregon men's distance team this year. Hocker, Teare, Hunter, DMR world record, and even Mestler made the Olympic final.
Not in Portland. That track is about 30 miles northeast of Eugene. Almost a 2.5 hour drive from Portland
Australia had only named 2 guys to their 800 team so far, so it looks like they will be naming a 3rd. Still haven't named Hoare though at 1500......
Why am I supposed to care about Australia?

Few more races before the end of the qualifying period and a couple of athletes they might think capable of running a faster time? Waiting until the end of the qualifying period to name the final athletes is probably a good practice.
Now this validates my impression of Hunter indoors. As a 3:53 miler with what looked like an easy late kick in the 800m indoor champs, he seemed destined to run 1:44 this year, then disappointed a bit outdoors. With his frame and endurance, he looks like he has a ton of potential still.
Been waiting for him to prove he should be an 800 guy after that 3:53 mile. This really proved it in my eyes lol a 1:44 is awesome for him!

They have already named Jye Edwards at 1,500 though, mainly because he won the Australian championships, which Hoare didn't attend. Hoare has a faster time though. Are they punishing Hoare for being based in the US and not going to the Australian championships? Because they literally said they didn't expect US-based athletes to show up. Matthew Ramsden also has the qualifying standard, and they haven't named him yet either.

Australian selection policy is quite clear - first or second at nationals (Olympic trials) with an Olympic qualifier is automatic selection. Third spot is discretionary - they can’t name discretionary spots until after the end of the World Ranking period (29/6/21)
So he’s not being punished - just doesn’t fit the criteria for automatic selection.
Ramsden is fourth, so will be “next pick” if Stewart doesn’t run the 1500.
https://www.worldathletics.org/stats-zone/road-to/7132391?eventId=10229502&country=AUSThere’s the confusion too with Stewart being named in the 5000m and 10000m which may or may not be the final decision.
Best guess is after the qualifying period ends, Stewart’s options will be finalised and this will determine Ramsden’s chance in the 1500 and McDonald’s in the 5000.

As a real athletics fan you should care about Australia in middle distance running, because theyre doing some really good stuff down there.
But youre probably not an athletics fan, just an fan of americans as America is the centre of the world for you.

Hunter will be 25 in a month, should be running fast by now. LOL

Kinda why unkle (at the moment) cares about Canada. ...Knight & Ahmed. Black guys.
...there's an irony here about 'The Headband of Jack Grealish' only being a fan of americans, or maybe you're right and the user behind the handle just likes American folk and headbands
What? I thought he may be capable of it, just looked too good in prelims.. so how come he did not run this time in the NCAA final??
Someone pay him off or threaten him to back off and lose to the US darlings?

No
Just plain lost to a clearly superior IsiahMFJewett!
....Not to mention a superior Freshman phenom
Hunter's really good for an Australian though.

I thought the Olympics were in August?
What's interesting about Mestler is he ran 8:33 at NCAAs and didn't make the final. Runs the exact same time at USAs and does make the final.

No, because he's a current NCAA athlete who qualified for the olympics in a popular event. So it's pretty relevant to people in the United States, which is a majority of the people on here, and distance fans which is also the majority of who is on here.

It's because all of the NCAA guys this season must have 'the shoes' and none of the pros do? The NCAA guys all season were running fast because of the shoes! There's no way the NCAA guys were just extremely competitive this year. Legitimate contenders for 1500/5k and even Mantz finishing top 5 at USA championships.. Some steeplers way up as well, and an 800 runner finsihing 2nd beating two finalists from 2019 world championships... It's time to admit the NCAA this year was insane, they didn't run their times because of super shoes. They're running shoulder to shoulder with the best runners in the country.
1:49.84 - 800m Freshmen National Record - Cooper Lutkenhaus (check this kick out!!)
Jakob on Oly 1500- “Walk in the park if I don’t get injured or sick”
Emma Coburn to miss Olympic Trials after breaking ankle in Suzhou
VALBY has graduated (w/ honors) from Florida, will she go to grad school??
Men who run twice a day and the women who love/put up with them
