Uh huh. Sure. Cops randomly pull guns on runners with SAG vehicles.
Breaking the record was never his goal, so typical on here people finding any negative in something as positive as a transcontinental run. Very impressive and all around good thing for running, tons of social media exposure
He averaged 38 miles per day and was supposedly "running" 14 hours per day? That 22-minute mile pace must have been grueling. That doesn't even qualify as fast walking, just a casual walk. So he walked across America and claimed to run. Sort of like those 8-hour "marathon runners."
NOTHING will ever top Bob Wieland's crossing of America.
Yes, that is very impressive.
He had limited running experience, struggled along the way with a couple of low mileage days. But he recovered, never gave up and kept going.
Most of you would not make it past week one.
14 hours includes the breaks he took. It was not 14 hours of consecutive moving. Pace ranged from 13-16 minutes per mile (from his Strava)
Does someone need 4 people to help them cross the US? One driver/cook/massage therapist/manager. Maybe 2 extra people. 4 seems ridiculous.

People have done it with just one crew person. But it is very hard on the crew person.
We are looking forward to Disko Eric's transcon with less people.

You’re assuming I know anyone that could put up with me long enough. Nice try. I like how you also assume I have no responsibilities and such a large bank account that I can disappear for 6-10 weeks. But this is LetsRun where everyone is an upper middle class white guy that works for a fortune 100. Oh, and your appeal to authority fallacy is cliche.

nerd
He's a former MLS player (i.e. not an explicit distance running background) and he covered about 30 miles a day. Regardless of pace, yes. We should be impressed. A tiny newspaper wrote about something cool--what a travesty.
At least he isn't like our friend Robert Young. Still one of my favorite LRC threads.
Yes, it's impressive. Are things only worth doing or impressive if you set a record? Of course not.
So an amateur runner only took twice as long as a 2 time former Badwater ultramarathon champ who is also 5th on the list for the 24 hour run record? Yes, I'd say that is impressive.

What?
Pete is like 58th in the 24 hour all time list.
I’m impressed. Slow running and all, that is serious dedication.
Sounds like a waste of time. I don’t find these things impressive at all. It’s more about having the time/means to do it.
