Week 49. I think I messed this one up.
38.4 miles/8:33/132bpm. TRIMP 531
Did not run much this week. Took Monday off, Tue 5miles, Wed off, Thu I planned something quick and short but snow suddenly hit us and it was not safe at all to run fast, just ran 3 miles and another 2 on Fri. Saturday after flight and sleepless night I went for 2k with some light strides, felt like crap initially, then got better.
Sun: Malaga marathon. Good weather at start, about 13C, it gradually got to around 20 later with the sun being pretty hot but generally it was ok weather. Course not Berlin flat, but generally flatter and easier than Helsinki I ran 1 year ago in 3:09:01.
I figured I'd just start with pacers for 3:00 and try to hang as long as I can. Unfortunately those guys were crazy and started too fast. They went through first 3k faster than 6:30 mile pace. I tried to fall back, but still it was almost half marathon pace for me. Felt better than in Helsinki though and I passed the half marathon mark in 1:29:48. Pacers were some 500m ahead. I fell off the sub3 pace around mile 16 and kept visual contact with pacers until 30k mark, which I passed in 2:09:59. I figured I was still good for a PR, considering 30k in Helsinki was 11 seconds slower, but soon my right side started tightening, I was limping and my right leg was hitting the ground at a weird angle. At 21 miles I stopped running, walked it in 3:54:something. Pretty much a DNF.
Now is the time to get my biomechanics back to normal. It's hard to run long with a twisted pelvis and on one leg. In a week I will start lifting and crosstraining, probably not running for a while.
Then I will gradually be introducing running and start reporting here again. Thanks for reading!
