The headline on the front page says the Eritrean was runner-up, he was fourth. At least the nufty got the time right.

2:07 was a much better time only a few years ago (and Rupp has of course much better track marks as someone like Ringer, there is no question that Rupp is/was in a different class). Ringer was wary (considerable negative split) in his second Marathon, he will probably get to 2:06-07 in another attempt.
Ricky Ringer, new German langlauf hero.
He was very cautious in the first half, 2:10:40 pace, and then negative split the second half which shows he has a lot more in the tank and can go much faster. in the mind. Go Ricky!
ASICS Metaspeed - Nice to see these shoes competing basically on a level playing field with the Nike super shoes, and Adidas. A lot of euro athletes seem to ASICS, - Wanders, Moen, Ringer. Others?
Now we have Nike, Adidas, and ASICS on the same level playing field or so it appears. What about New Balance, Brooks, and HOKA, will they follow suit? What about the Dathan Ritzenheim shoes? Sketchers? The cost of research and development might push some of these shoe companies into the brink of despair.
The laboratory boffins have their work cut out.

Shoes?
Pretty confident he was wearing Brooks Beasts out there bro.
Brooks super shoe. Same principle, same technology, same look, and same effectiveness, same price range. Nike, Adidas, ASICS, Brooks - much of a muchness.
Ricky is ASICS sponsored according to his profile on Instagram and Strava, unless I’m suffering from Alzheimer’s.
I heard Rupp mentioned on this thread. Has he "popped a 2:04" yet?

Someone could buy Atreyu and be in the game tomorrow.

Nope, and he never will. I don't think he'll ever break 2:07 again. That someone thinks Rupp was a potential 2:02 runner is a testament to the Salazar/Nike propaganda machine

Cost of R&D would be however much a couple pairs of nikes are to cut them open and find out how they did it lol. The research has already been done.

I don't buy that. 2:07 is still a great time for a non-East African. No one thinks Rupp should run 2:04 and he's a lot better than Ringer. 2:04 is a time that puts someone in the game for WMM wins and global medals. No one expects that from Europeans or Americans, or even Japanese
I don't care that much about this topic on the whole but this is just false. Everyone thinks Rupp should run 2:04 lol, he won an Olympic bronze and ran 26:44 on the track.

You are right but it is strange that Puma is not following the wave.
Maybe Puma focuses on sprint distances only these days. Are there in fact any Puma distance runners, - not to my knowledge?
What about Sketchers and ON (Ritzenheim)?

Yep, agreed about that.
Rupp was not focused on running fast marathon times but rather on winning championship medals in the marathon, after his track career.

Lol. "I could run fast, I just don't want to" is a juvenile argument. He's run 2:06 on quick courses in super shoes. He's a 2:06 runner and you have no evidence to the contrary
