Today a leading print newspaper in the US has a feature on Erling Haaland. His track and field background caught my attention.
A leading print newspaper wrote:
Clubs are starting a bidding war because soccer hasn’t seen a player like Haaland in a generation. In an era when teams forwards are asked to be swiss army knives—scoring, creating, and pressing—he is a one-purpose battering ram. What makes him unique is that he looks almost outlandish on a soccer field. Haaland isn’t unusually huge by the standards of American sports, but at 6-foot-4, 194 pounds, he is built like the door of a bank vault. He combines that with a freakish athleticism that has been obvious ever since he learned to walk. (According to one track and field database, he still holds the standing long-jump world record for 5-year-olds.)
In the online version of the article, the leading print newspaper then links to the following database.
http://age-records.125mb.com/PS. If you are wondering why I'm writing "a leading print newspaper" instead of the name of the newspaper, I'm doing so to make a point. . It drives me nuts when news outlets report things without mentioning the name of the database or website. They screw over letsrun in similar fashion all the time. If it was a tv network like CNN, they'd always mention it by name, but for some reason when it's a website they feel like it's ok to say "online messageboard" or database without mentioning the name.
