Deceptively fast. Looks to be waddling along at a much slower pace if you look at shots around 3:13-3:20 for instance.

He's done a lot of weight lifting, he's not nearly as lean as when he was a pro runner.
I don't think he's exactly 'tubby'.
looks better than when he ran that 56 400m and made a 9 minute video about it.
Tubby ain’t the right word. This dudes bulkin up with muscle.
As a 1:58 guy I’d probably hit mid 26s for this workout, so it makes you wonder if he could still dip under 2:00.
How is this surprising? The guy ran 1’42 nine years ago, natural talent doesn’t go anywhere.
He ran under 2:00 a few months ago I think.
Looks a bit like Ryan Hall with the swole build.
How is thread still up? What if it was about Cain with that title?
this is basically a matt london john james video
i rewatched it, he ran a 57, not a 56. so if he can break 2 again, that's a "breakthrough" lol

Really? As a runner with similar times (but more speed oriented) I could easily hit 24s for this workout
Whole PC movement is bogus as hell but why isnt it a double standard to refer to nick as tubby.
Has there been a more ungainly looking world class distance runner than Nic Symmonds? That's not a knock? Hats off to the guy. He may have gotten more out of his innate ability than any other runner I can think of. That said, even in his prime, he looked so unsmooth.
You can see Cas Loxsom, more of a speed-oriented runner, closing that 3x400m workout in 49.7, as Symmonds runs 52.4. But Loxsom, unfortunately, was never able to really bring down that 800m time, whereas Symmonds ran 1:42.95/1:43.3 and medaled.
Maybe the run in start would save me some time, I forgot to factor that in. But still, I’m running about 51.5-52 for 400 rn, I don’t think I’d be able to average faster than all out 400m pace. I could be wrong tho

If you can hit 24s for 6 x 200m with "full" recovery and are training as a distance runner and not a sprinter then you should be running 1:54-1:55 at worst. I was running 1:56 when I could only run 24-mid all-out (FAT).

The only way surprised ran 6x200 24s is with a rolling sprint start along with a late/early watch.

+1
This tubby thread is still up. What a double standard. How about starting one that says tubby Tuohy leads off DMR or tubby Cain is running this weekend? It would be gone in 1 minute. Why is it okay to say it about a former Olympian? He promotes fitness and leaves a very healthy life.
