Thank you, everyone. I appreciate your support. It's not an easy thing to put out there on this forum knowing the risk of getting flamed but it's a serious issue and there needs to be an open dialogue.
I have contacted attorneys. The first one wanted a - I forget - 5 or 10K retainer and told me it will cost me over 20K in the end (with no guarantee of a positve outcome). The second attorney never called back after I left a detailed summary with her assistant. The third attorney said he might be able to help with the texts that were sent but he wouldn't be able to tie them into the retaliation and whistleblower's violations. Then I found out from EEO that I cannot go through an attorney until all other options have been exhausted. Technically, I am still in the midst of my official complaint.
I first approached HR in October after his worst act of retaliation. She flat out didn't care what I had to say. She took his word even though I had actual facts and documentation proving otherwise. I finally let her know about the sexual harassment that started it all (at the time she didn't know it was the same individual), and she wanted me to name him but she wouldn't tell me what would happen if I gave her the name. I asked her several times and she wouldn't give me an answer. I also asked her to reinstate my telework (which was stripped from me during that act of retaliation) so I could have separation from him but she said the base needed me (meanwhile, all other state employees with my job title at other bases were on full telework). I sent her emails telling her I was terrified to give a name because of the potential fallout or what would happen if my complaint is dismissed and I'm still stuck working with him. She never answered.
I turned to my union rep. He seemed helpful at first but he didn't take any actions either. I finally got disgusted and sent a cropped text message to show them what he had sent me. They took it serious for about 30 seconds. Even after turning everything over to them, I got nothing. My union rep accused me of "cherry picking" text messages as if I was leading him on. The offender's immediate supervisor, a Colonel, has never even asked me about it. All I learned during this process is that uniformed officers stick up for uniformed officers and that's just how it goes.
The only solution presented to me is to move to an unadvertised opening with another branch of the service but it is in an area that I cannot afford to live. Why should I end up financially stressed for this situation that I didn't ask to be in? And why should I stay with an organization that has shown no interest in protecting me?
A few people have told me to go to the media but I am a private person and, even though he deserves it, I just don't have it in me to destroy him. I thought for sure they would just transfer me to "make the problem go away" but my agency doesn't even want to let me go because, as I was told, they value my skill set....but apparently don't value me enough to protect me.
Just know that for every woman that comes forward with a false story for some personal or political agenda, I can promise you there are many, many more suffering the real deal in silence because it's either too scary to come forward or no one helps you anway once you muster the courage to do so. It freaking sucks.
