Check the scoring table. The aforementioned 800 runners are way ahead of Tuohy. Those are just facts.

As I recall it Decker had serious health issues and surgery right out of high school. I'm sure of LRC was around, she would have been labeled a bust. :)
You do realize that international distance running is an EPO/doping fueled cesspool, a farce that no self-respecting sports fan takes seriously, and that not a single international record set since probably the 1980s has been clean, and that there was blood doping going on since the 1970s? That is why no one really cares. I don't expect any high school or college distance runner to win internationally, and if they did it would be based on the same fraud. EPO cannot be beat no matter how talented you are in distance running. Have seen this game before in international cycling. So in a word, who cares? A good NCAA running career is the only benchmark I have in mind.

Exactly.
Compared to the world:
Our mid d is strong.
Our throws are strong.
Our sprinters are very strong.
Our jumps are strong.
....But our distance events are relatively weak in comparison to the rest of the world.
I'd say this is more reflective of distance events in the US lacking the appeal to attract the top athletic talent.
The athletic kids in the US don't gravitate to distance running here like they do in Africa. ...Or Europe for that matter.
For anyone interested
