I was watching the Rudisha 2012 race and got curious about Kitum due to his success at such a young age but I haven't seen anything past 2015 on his world athletics page.

He declined the quit the fastest time he ran after was 1:43.65(Rudisha pulled everyone to a PR) his last 800m was in 2018 he ran
Sorry didn't finish he ran around 1:49 in 2018.
Was probably worried about the damage the EPO was doing to his health...
He ran out of pure hate to run the 800 on.
^ It's that.

WaDA called that's what happened to his career.
He was actually 27 and at the peak of his career. If I had a dime for every "17" and "18" year old phenom that comes from Ethiopia or Kenya that promptly disappears in a year or two....
Why don't 27 year old Americans/Europeans,/Asians (frankly non Kenyans/Ethiopians) run 1:42 or sub 13 in the 5k, sub 3:35 in the 1500m e.t.c.
Why only 27 year old Kenyans and Ethiopians?
I am counting the time downwards before you say EPO.
He is married to the best 1,500m runner and decided to take time off and cater for his family.
That said, he was trending downwards career wise.
The reason they burn out is because of intense training at a young age also despite the lack of official documentation the ages are most likely correct the actual date might not be exactly right but the ages are relatively accurate give or take a few years.

Good post. Sounds like a smart time to retire.
Some other posts in this thread show how Americans struggle to understand the reasons that people run (or quit running) in Kenya.
He turned 40 and couldn't keep up with the young guys anymore.

Wait, is he married to Faith Kipyegon? Or else who? Are there gonna be little Cruz Kitums or Colt Kipyegons running around?
Intense training at a young age is right but a lot of these guys, probably like Kitum, are years older than they say. There are all kinds of reasons for doing that involving getting agents and competing at world youth or world junior. The younger you are at a given pace, the more your potential, agents think. Why aren't non-Kenyans/non-Ethiopians doing it at any age? Well, they don't train enough; they're not tough enough; they don't have the drive; and they are drug-tested.
Yes, he is married to Faith Kipyegon and they have a daughter. He retired from the sport to focus on family as the wife had Better prospects in the sport.
I really don't understand why people from Europe always say Africans never get drug tested. They do get tested constantly. European countries & America always top the Olympics ranking in terms of amount of medals won. One European country can win Olympic medals than all of the African countries combined, but no one will say they avoided drug tests.
But when an African country wins one medal, white racists will start to say Africans never get drug tested. This is really annoying and it's been happening for decades now... smh
