From the original list we have: 1,7,12,14,22, and 25. Add in Grovdal who is much better than her PB and rising star B.Chebet. That's 8 to push a quick time. Any bragging rights available to the top 4 here?
Are 1, 2, 3, 7, and 10 the favourites for the 5000m at the Olympics?

Maybe swap out 7 for 17.

14 hours until the Kenyan trials race
One hour and ten until 8 of the top 25 try to squeeze into three places.
Niyonsaba with her amazing time over two miles last weekend drives into the top ten of this list. Her place gets confirmed in it in 24 hours in Paris when she should take another of her countrywoman Caviline Nahimana's NR's off her. That feat only comes by crushing the 9.07.23 record. Francine should do that easily, maybe by 44 sec down to 8.23.xx as she handles the competition for the win. Challengers should come from GDS, Kipkemboi, Koko, Fantu Worku, and Beatrice Chebet.

Taye surprised, top 5 chance in the final. will turn the tables there. If niyonsaba finishes 6 or 7 in zurich in around 14.38, where does she rank firstly in this list, then at year end for 3000/ 2 miles [first], and 5000 [hassan, gidey, obiri, tsegay, tirop, taye, then her?]

You were surprised that a woman who ran 14:14 this year was in contention?
Honestly I expect Niyonsaba to finish top-5 in every women’s 5k she runs from now on, if not becoming world #1 in the next year or two.
Also, I believe there’s an argument to be made for Niyonsaba ranking #3 behind Hassan and Tsegay already. I might put Obiri and Gidey ahead of her at this point as well, but won’t be surprised if that changes by season’s end.

Yeah, with Taye I know she had made great strides over 5000, but i mistakenly thought her 8.40ish previous best might be as good as she was going to get over the shorter distance.
I can't get on the Francine train yet. Like Katir in the men's, one or two distances over the 1500 to 5000 range doesn't guarantee them all.
14:14 for 5k is 8:33 3k pace.
As for Niyonsaba, I think when you can run an 8:19 3k, and place 5th in a stacked Olympic w10k, you’re probably good for at least 14:25 on a good day. Plus, it seems like she’s still improving at the longer distances, and compared with most women “the sky’s the limit.”
Katir is a different story. For one thing your characterization of “one or two distances over the 1500 to 5000 range doesn't guarantee them all” doesn’t make sense to me, as Katir raced well in two early-season 5ks including a 12:50, beat McSweyn convincingly with a 7:27 3k, and beat Ingebrigtsen with his 3:28.76 in Monaco; he just underperformed at the Olympics, for whatever reason. I fully expect we’ll be seeing more incredible results from Katir. Whether Katir does run 3:27 or continue to underperform, though, people here will accuse him of doping, which is at least one thing Niyonsaba will never have to deal with.

You do realize this is a thread about contemporary 3k-5k runners, right?

I would place Niyonsaba #2 already. A handful of extreme performances carry a heck of a lot more weight than year after year of very good performances, especially given the circumstances of the runner in question.
Niyonsaba wasn't fully ready for Tokyo, whether it was the heat or she simply didn't have the foundation of the runners who have dedicated to distance for years. If she had been prepared for Tokyo the new pecking order would be glaring already. I have no idea why so many are now unwilling to accept the obvious, especially since the visuals are far more convincing than the times.
Hassan vs Niyonsaba is the only true remaining question mark...what that sprint finish looks like at the end of a distance race once Niyonsaba is further advanced in her training and mileage?
I expect Niyonsaba to emerge as #1. and to essentially put Hassan away similar to the way Kipyegon does at the end of the 1500. And at that point Sebastian Coe has big problems. I think Wambui to emerge also and shoot up your rankings. She recently announced plans to focus on the 5000, after not competing for two years. No doubt Wambui will receive encouragement from Niyonsaba, who talked about how sad it was that the entire 800 podium from Rio wouldn't be in the race in Tokyo. They want a second act, and how satisfying that would feel.
