Trying to lessen the impact of 3 decades of one country (China) taking advantage of another (US) is not the same as starting a trade war. The war was started 30 years ago; our politicians just allowed our ‘troops’ (middle class) to be killed on a perpetual basis as the ‘generals’ made out like bandits. The obvious goal of Trump’s actions against China was to get them to drop THEIR tarriffs that have been in place for years on our products. Leveling the playing field is not a bad thing after decades of selling out our middle class. Trump did not start this trade war.

Protectionists need to go the way of Malthusians. They have literally always been wrong.
The position laid out above is consistent with the public position from every Liberal / Democrat politician (and individuals) pre-2016. Democrats always preached about the middle class being the backbone of America. It’s been fascinating watching them turn into free trade globalists in just a couple years. Quite humorous.
Think about your local farmers market. All you see is “Fair trade”, “support local”, etc., with clearly more Liberals than conservatives walking around, right? Guess that was all bullshiit.
