Some creeper staring at me while I was taking a dump in his backyard. ...I mean, what sort of perv are you? Can’t a man go to the bathroom in peace?
A man's body floating facedown in Lake Merritt, Oakland, CA, mid Nineties.
Not weird, but cool. A few of us were running on a trail in the woods when we heard a splashing noise to our left. About 10-15 yards away was a deer running parallel with us through the creek. He kept pace with us for 30-40 yards before heading off into the woods.
Terrible story: Another time we were running at Land's End in San Francisco when a guy ran by us with blood running down his face. We read the next day that a rape had occurred in the area.
1) Running through a park at dusk and rounded a corner and a guy and girl were going at it on a picnic table. They had a blanket which was good so they wouldn't get small splinters.
2) In a different park came across a girl doing her best Monica Lewinski impression.
3) Running at Lumpini park in Bangkok one evening (it's lighted) around 6:30-7:00pm I came up on about 7-8 people running quite slowly (10-11 minute pace) while I was around 6:30 pace. It was some Army General with his entourage. They made motions as if I was not to come near them or pass them. I just swung wide and went around them and nothing happened.
Hmmm.. I surely have seen a number of wierd things, but, I don't tend to remember them much as I am focused on enjoying my run. I do notice the other runners who I may be on the same path as. I'm actually not the type to wave a hand to another runner/jogger, but if they do sometimes I'll wave back to acknowledge that we are both partaking in the same activity.
The other day while about 2 miles into my 4 mile run I saw a guy without any gloves. It was well below 0. -7 celcius, whatever that is in Fahrenheit. Probably 20 or lower.
But to each their own, maybe he just likes the cold on his hands. I like to wear gloves.
And I have not been chased on runs. Basically, the worst I can remmeber is 'run forest run' or maybe 'fa**ot' but the number of times I can recall those I can probably count on 1 hand.
When running I take it moderately seriously in that my intention is to enjoy myself and capitalize on the fact I am healthy enough to reap the benefits of this activity. If someone is foolish enough to want to harass me while I'm doing this activity I cherish, I will give them hell if I can.
Running on the trails in the hills outside Nazareth Illit, in the Galilee of Israel. Was living in Nazareth and came to the hills for the nice trails. Turned a corner and there was a jeep parked in a shady corner, two Israelis having sex on the hood.
I turned and bolted, as the social norms over there are pretty conservative and was thinking about retaliation. Didn't see anyone else.
Nazareth sucks for running.
2 matching gloves...miles apart.
I saw a live red fox on a run a few months ago and a bald eagle shortly after that. Last month I saw a dead coyote that had been hit by a car. I couple months before that I saw a woman jogger veer off the running path and take a dump about a hundred yards ahead of me. Lol. One time when I live in Manhattan I was running through the city mid-summer and I came across and kind of ran through a film set with fake snow. Another time I ran past a guy with a cat sitting on his head (he's actually google-able, "Cat head guy manhattan"). Another time I passed the actor who played Bobby Baccalierie on the HBO show Sopranos, while jogging along the waterfront near Tribeca (great, great show, by the way, worth binging). Other than that I haven't seen anything too outrageously weird on runs, come to think of it.
TURKEY AIN'T THE ONLY THING GETTIN' STUFFED
I was running on Thanksgiving day...2009 I think. Running on the "slave dock trails" in Richmond...south of the river at the far east end of the city. I don't know what that area is like now, but back then those trails saw minimal use, and it was not the kind of place I would want to be after dark. I'm nearing the end of the trail and it skirts next to a parking lot (I think people would use the lot for fishing). The lot is totally empty except for one car...parked fairly random and diagonally across multiple spots. There is a HUGE ass sticking out of the drivers seat. This girl is bent over into the seat...one leg propped up on the floorboard. The guy has his pants down at his ankles and is just stuffing it hard making her BIG ass shake and jiggle. Runner's instinct quickly took over and I ran away, but the entire run home was filled with laughter over what I had just seen. It was a hilarious site and I still laugh about it today.
I'm starting my run one day, only two blocks from my house in a very quiet suburb "near" Nike. As I'm about to cross the street, I look left and there are police cars lining the entire street. Look to the right and there are more police. Then I here "pop, pop, pop" and I think "Sounds like fireworks, but they always say that gun fire sounds like fireworks. I think I'll go a different way today." Guy in a cul de sac off the street to the right did suicide by cop. Glad I didn't go right.

Was on vacation and went for a run in a random direction. Was quickly in the middle of nowhere on a small country type road. A few miles in I come across a shack next to the road. There’s a really nasty looking dude sitting down behind a low fence maybe two feet tall. He’s got a huge knife in his hand and he’s carving some sort of body up. I can’t see what it is because of the low fence. Surrounding him on this fence are buzzards and feral cats. I kid you not, more than a dozen of these creatures are around like they are his best friends. As I’m running by he, and all the animals stop and stare straight into my soul giving me the most unfriendly look I’ve ever seen. It was dead quiet. All my hairs were standing up and a huge shot of adrenaline surged through me.
I did an extra long run that morning because I wanted to give him a lot of time to do whatever it was he was doing so I wouldn’t see him coming back.
-I was running and out of nowhere a huge group of guys on segways passed at full speed. At least 50 of them. Never saw another before or after. Must have been a mall cop convention in town.
-Attacked by red tailed hawk. Did multiple swoops on me.
-Dean Karnazes cut in front of me at bib pickup for a small local half marathon and proceeded to talk smack. I ran a 1:14 and never saw him again.
-Used to see a guy running with a RC car as his pacer, saw him quite often in SF.
Dead white female. Shirt ripped open. Near west side highway and 97th. 6am some Sunday.
News buried it. Didn't see headlines anywhere just obscure Gotham post. Haven't run there since
1. I like night running, and was running through a dark wood years ago and saw 3 guys dancing to loud music round a fire naked maybe 75-100m off the path. I dunno if they saw me but I freakin sprinted out of there. (no idea WTF they were doing)
2. This was very recent - I was up early on a 5am run and some guy in the middle of no where was ranting on the ridgeway path I was running along, that the police were everywhere and were going to arrest us. Bless, I dont think he was all there.
3. Interesting dog story - I was trying to find my way back to the main path off a byway and accidentally walked through a gate that ended up being a large country estate (Oxford England) and a giant dog came running up me not barking but very aggressive and put his front legs up on my shoulders and tryed to pull me down (I am very strong so I could just about hold him at arms length) stroked him nicely, calm voice the whole time, till I could vault a gate before he did something. Had a really strange high tech collar that flashed, so I am guess to stop him wondering off the estate, but I was in fudgeville for a while, pushing him off me for about 400m.
4. This was also quite recent a dude was parked up on the Ridgeway naked in his car with his junk in his hand trying to wave me over to him when I ran past. I smiled and carried on running. after that, and thought to myself does he really want some sweaty man in his car? some people have weird turn ons.
5. Saw 2 guys set a barn full on fire full of hay bales and make off in a stolen tractor, turned out they were getting revenge on a employer.
Your vaulting a gate story reminded me of the time I ran through a farmer's field and a bullock chased me. Before I knew it I was over the fence. I went back to look the next day and still don't know how I got over the fence in one movement. Must have been a high jump with hands PB. I still remember hearing its hooves thundering behind me.

What kind of clothes did he have that he can fit an uzi in the pocket? not trying to be rude, i'm genuinely interested
If he was by a canal it is possible he had fisherman's overalls on and you can fit a laptop plus a large jar of Kenco coffee into those so I suppose it would not be outside the realms of possibility that he had an uzi in there.
