Nope.
I'm a HS coach on the 6A level. Most HS coaches on here would know who I am. Ray's hire was known for a couple weeks but couldn't be made public for what should be really obvious reasons.
Are you Juris Green from The Woodlands?

That would make sense since the guy complains about schools not recruiting his kids. I wouldn't touch a Woodlands kid with a six foot pole.
Erik Stevens to TX State Distance. See athletic staff directory.

Paetyn Thornton to coach jumps from SHSU

+1
It's now become a case of "Payback" against the "Old White Guys", some of which are really talented coaches with a lot to offer. I'm all in for diversity and inclusion, but not to just spite the perceived coaching profession. At the end of the day, you need to win and if not you'll be exposed no matter your skin color and or gender. Why do you see so many coaches bouncing around? No one wants to work hard and spend time developing their craft.
FYI-
I'm not white, I just want to work with coaches who know their Sh^t and are dedicated, and have the ability and or potential to mentor young talented athletes...PERIOD! If a young potential coaching candidate can learn this in a couple of years with little working experience both as an athlete and coach then I'm all in to bring them on. Sorry to say, I've yet to come across anyone who's shortcutted paying dues.

No. Hesitant to post my name but I'm on the west side of Houston and don't post that often. But very interested in the college hires as it does affect our kids. Hoping to see some hard recruiters and good coaches get these Texas jobs. The last week has been promising.
squandered the jumps group at shsu and bumps over unt? how does that work?

So why does a coach go from a clear 6-figure+ job at the pinnacle of the national scene to this which is probably no more than 80 and far less competitive?

This decision was made a while ago, I'm surprised they waited so long to announce. I guess the paperwork aspect is a much bigger deal than we typically recognize.
You beat me to it. I can't imagine that College Station is a fun place to live but Champaign isn't exactly a utopia either. Neither place is expensive to live either.
Maybe Pat Henry wasn't giving him as much autonomy with the training. I heard that he's not exactly a fun guy to be around. Then again I've heard nothing positive about Turk down at U of Illinois. Both coaches and athletes alike have had some pretty troubling things to say.
All of this is speculation on my part since I'm not intimately involved but it does make you wonder why he wouldn't have gone to USC. Georgia, Alabama etc. Not because they're bigger names and bigger schools but simply because they have a bit more resources and most certainly would pay more.
College Station is a good town to live in. Has everything unless you're the museum and Michelin rated restaurant type. If you're a suburban lifestyle person, then Collefe Station has it all and the rest is a short drive to Houston or Austin.
I'm surprised by the Hon move. Didn't see that coming. They need someone to come in and land studs for short sprints again. Recruit, recruit, recruit.

UTRGV obviously won big in this one. Embry has a resume that could be hired at a power five school and he is one heck of a recruiter. The other guy coached high school athletes, sounds like he never coached his event area, and never been on the D1 level. Bad hire for Coastal.
Please stop trying to toot your own horn Mike. Coastal has their guy, while you landed another job. Do better
I know Mike very well and I know he’s not on this platform. I also know he has no issues with the staff there at CCU. If you read his job announcement he thanked some important people in our business including specific coaches at CCU. Stop trying to start crap and get back to the job postings.
