There's not a single walmart in kenya.
Yes there is. The stores have other names in Kenya under the Massmart umbrella. Walmart has more stores in the rest of the world than in the US, although the Walmart name is rarely used outside US.
By the way, other than quarterbacks, most NFL stars would go unrecognized in a US Walmart. They play under a helmet. And of course American football is almost unknown in the rest of the world.
But yes, the NFL, by far the most popular sport in the US, is more popular than distance running.
I'm a non-American and I've never heard of the other guy you mentioned in this post but would definitely recognise Kipchoge.
runners aren't famous like NFL players wrote:
Drew Breese goes into Walmart in New Orleans and most people are all over him, " can l have an autograph Drew" " can you take a picture with me and my wife Drew", but the only people that will approach Kipchoge at the same Walmart will be the person at the door asking, " can l see your receipt". To most folks at that store he is just a skinny black dude.
I've never heard of Drew Breese.
I am a European and a big sports fan. Have never heard of Drew Breese. Most of my friends would be the same. I can name three or four of American footballers, at best. A small percentage of people follow it over here but, by in large, it is not many people's radar.

Brees, and it isn't even close.
honestly, for europeans (im a pretty swede) NFL players are unknown.
i know the name tom brady but i have no idea what he looks like.
i thought drew was a tv celebrity from some posh new tv series! LOL
if eliud walked into a food store here in sweden a few people would recoqnize him.
and in most cases, no one would notice an NFL player.
I dont even know a single player from NFL, I heard a few names but I dont even know how they look like, outside USA NFL is not an important sport, not as important as to be in the olympics games, but I would definetely recognize Kipchogue, Olympic Champion
what about Sage Canaday, would you recognize him while making an uber drive? Speedboat champion and course record holder!

Wesley Korir once said Ryan Hall was more famous in Kenya than any player in NFL or MLB.
I bet more people would recognize Rupp than Brees in Nairobi.
I can picture the cashier at Wal Mart saing something like
"Heyyyyy......Aren't you the guy who got his ass handed to him by Kenny B for 6 years, and then pogo-sticked his way to a sub 2 hour marathon that nobody thinks is legit??"
And then as Kipchoge walks away to leave the store
"Boing boing boing!!"

No...I've come to accept that I suck and always have and always will.
Are autographs still a thing? Last one I got was in '79 at the Chicago Distance Classic from the winner of the Men's race.
Few know anything about NLF outside of US
^^
I'm Canadian, so I have more American influence than most of the world and I have no idea who this Drew guys is, let alone think I could recognize him in a store
I'm not sure even I would recognize Kipchoge in a Walmart, because it would be so out of place. I would think, there's a random 50-year-old Walmart shopper who looks like Kipchoge.
My office is near the Rockets' arena and across the street from the hotel where most teams will stay (pre-pandemic). My building has a big food court. I have seen a number of NBA players getting lunch in the food court without getting a second look. The only time I ever saw anyone get recognized was when Kobe worked out at the gym in my building.
It has always been the case that distance runners in the US are pretty much unknown outside of running circles. Even back in the golden era of running in the US. Bill Rodgers would walk around Boston without getting noticed.
