So a pattern that I've noticed is that if I get my period on a regular basis I run really poorly but if I lose it for an extended time frame I improve a LOT. I've been running for ~12 years; the first 7 I had my period and I wasn't good, then I got an eating disorder and lost my period (was terrible, would very much never ever recommend at all) for 3 years and during that whole time when I wasn't menstruating I was PRing basically every race and ended up dropping almost 4 minutes from my 5k (21:49 to 17:57). I eventually got sick of the eating disorder thing so I got help and my period eventually came back even though I only gained ~10 pounds (I luckily was never at really dangerous point). I haven't PRed since I started getting my period again and I haven't even run under 19 minutes for the 5k since. Has this happened to anyone else? What am I doing wrong? I thought menstruating and not having an eating disorder would make me faster but I just got a lot slower :(
