The last year or so my hamstring has a problem where the lower outside of my hamstring just randomly gets super inflamed.
The nature of the inflammation is not acute and builds throughout the day, lasts through the next day or two, and then goes away.
If I try running while it is in this inflamed state I am at a HUGE risk of pulling it. I’ve pulled it 6 times in the last year, two of them being severe enough that I couldn’t run for 3 weeks and then couldn’t do speed work for another 3. Doesn’t matter if it’s 200m repeats, a tempo run, or even just an easy run. There is no stranger and demoralizing feeling than feeling your muscle pull while moving at 7:30 pace.
These last couple months I’ve been trying to build into the high 60s instead of my more traditional 30-40 because I want to be successful and have more range in college. I obviously can’t do this if I have to take 2-3 days off every couple weeks.
I don’t believe this is an overtraining injury as it was still a problem when I was running 30 mpw.
Anyone have any ideas?
