Dear "I've noticed":
The US stands tied with Brazil in 8th place for MOST deaths per million population out of 147 countries with at least 1,500 cases.
Sorry, but ranking worse than 138 countries and better than 7 countries does not indicate success.
Yours most sincerely,

What happens when you take the NY/NJ experiment out of the equation? It is a 8 statistical outlier, by far.
Ok, so let's take out the entire Northeast and compare some of the southern states to other countries. Here are the death rates:
Louisiana - 1,055 deaths/million
Mississippi - 811 deaths/million
Arizona - 684 deaths/million
South Carolina - 515 deaths/million
Florida - 510 deaths/million
Georgia - 508 deaths/million
If these states were countries, excluding tiny countries like San Marino, Louisiana would be #1 in the world, Mississippi #3, Arizona #4, S Carolina #10, Florida #11 and Georgia #12. Louisiana, Mississippi and Arizona all have higher death rates than Spain, UK, and Italy - the hardest hit countries in Europe.
What's more, the daily death counts in those states currently are higher than the European countries ahead of them. Yet each of these states had an 2-3 extra months to prepare that the NY and NJ did not have.
