And do they also want the lives of the other 99.9 to be shutdown just so they can see their grandkids grow up???
Oh, are they in the 99.98% group?

COVID has done a great job of highlighting the selfishness and the inherent instability within the USA. "It's all about me and screw how my actions might impact others". Nice.

So we'll shut down the country for your parents. We'll wreck the economy upon which future generations (those grand kids) depend for your parents. We'll increase (massively right this minute) rates of suicides, murders, depressions, domestic abuse and on and on...for your parents.
And you're good with all of that? And you don't see how that interconnects to the world your kids will grow up in? Something very wrong with that.

You’re right. Because anybody that is concerned about the 1% and wants things shut down because it may be THEIR parents and disregards the other 99% is completely selfish.

Wearing a face covering in crowded public places is not shutting down the economy. It seems to me like most of the economy is open.

The best economy in the world right now is China. They had the most draconian lockdown of any country in the world. When it was over, the virus was completely contained and new outbreaks have been quickly detected and contained.
And there is no evidence that lockdowns and social distancing measures have caused a massive surge in crime. Homicides are up in some big cities, but most other crime statistics are generally flat. And the spike in homicides do not correlate well with lockdowns. There is some evidence that they may have been due to the George Floyd protests, a massive gun buying surge and a slow down of policing. But the increase in homicides isn't really that big of a deal as it is an increase over a historically very low homicide rate. We are no where even close to the homicide rates of the 1990s.

It’s too bad they have chosen to stop living it.

Ohhh, that's why we're seeing protests against masks and lockdowns taking place all over the world, right? But, to the liberal, it's only 'stupid right-wing Americans'.

It's about the intergenerational social contract. If I assume that the next generation might throw you under the bus as soon as the next pandemic/[enteryourowncrisishere] hits, what incentives do I have to invest for future generations? The current high COVID-risk generation went to war for us, you fool. And now you're happy to kill 'em for the economy (which I don't even buy - aggregate demand is smoothed in these kinds of shocks; pent up demand is a real thing). All you seem able to do is mindlessly grasp the closest "freedom" you can see, without digging deeper. If you ignore how generations treat each, we'll end up in a stupid zero-sum game in which everyone will say, as a famous Coloradoan once (often?) said, "Screw you guys, I'm going home". And we'll all be worse off.
What we've done is the worst case scenario - partial shutdown.
It combines the negative affects on the economy while providing ample paths for the virus to keep spreading and spreading, which keeps the impulse to shut down for longer.
Leaving things wide open would overwhelm hospitals where people in that 99.99% group still need access to care.
The countries that shut it down real hard seemed to leave the virus with no where to go and they have since opened up with social distance guidelines and much fewer cases and deaths.

Agree with this. We should have at least contained it to the NE as China did in Wuhan. Completely shut down the NYC area. No movement in and out of the area at all. No domestic flights or movement of goods and services.
But since there was no widespread testing we had no idea where it had spread and how extensive the spread. We are the only country that experienced a second wave like we did in the sunbelt and there are still 1,000 people dying a day.
Now that it is entrenched in communities throughout the country there is not much we can do, especially that there is little to no social distancing/mask wearing. Consequently, another 100,000+ will die and the economic recovery will be much slower than countries that have largely eliminated the virus.
We are the textbook case of how not to handle a pandemic.

Then make sure that when they go out they wear masks and social distance and when they come home they wash their hands. When you visit them wear a mask and don't get too close to them. You and the grandchildren should get tested to make sure you're safe when you visit.
They will love seeing videos or pictures of the grand kids playing sports, singing in chorus, playing music in the band enjoying vacations.
Not too difficult.

And I’m sure those grandkids would love to still be able to play sports, and sing in the chorus, play music in band, and enjoy vacations. But the Dems have stopped all that, all in an effort to hurt Trump. Despicable.
Pretty hilarious and demented to see that no one disputes the figures in the chart (um. because they are accurate) yet they are still pretending there was a pandemic and believe in the pretend measures that are mandated.
Mass psychoses and social engineering at it's finest.
Meanwhile follow the money.

"And I’m sure those grandkids would love to still be able to play sports, and sing in the chorus, play music in band, and enjoy vacations ...[WITH THEIR GRANDPARENTS]" -- this might have been possible if Trump hadn't done such a horrific job with managing this thing.
If I make it to 80 years old, there's no chance I'd expect society to come to a halt and the whole world to wear masks to protect me from a virus. I'd stay home if I was scared, but I'd never expect everyone else to do the same.
No way at all. I'm not that selfish.
