It is a feeling of whatever. I think it is difficult to think that these records are anything but the byproduct of improved science, meaning running surfaces, shoe technology and PED chemical cocktails. I say WHATEVER. Anyone else? I can still somewhat enjoy it but not so much.
Tend to agree. Newly laid mondo WS, state of the art track surface, together with carbon plated woven cushioned sole to give more energy return and even lights that give a programmed pace to break the record. I mean, his laps only differentiated by about 1.4 secs all race!
Bekele enjoyed none of those technical advantages, although he likely had a chemical one, which is probably the point for allowing these ever faster tracks and spikes; in order for pereceived 'tainted' records to be finally broken and thus give a well needed shot in the arm (pardon the pun) to prevent the further rot of the sport's popularity in the eyes of the public.
Far too many pbs and records set in what was after all, the first real competitive track event of the season. Athletes tend not to run their fastest in their season openers.
